Indeed. With drivers that age you always think, 'Was it the driver or the car'.
My wife lost her god mother when some dodery old bat reversed over her in a car park.

On one of the TV cop shows some traffic plod were explaining that a common problem with old people is hitting the accelerator rather than the brake. It seems highly plausible to me that happened in this case.
