I'm looking purely for contents cover, as I'm renting.
Do insurance companies specifically do just contents cover?
Anyone have any personal recommendations of companies I can get quotes from?

I've only ever rented, so always had contents only. Check all the major players as most will do it. I'm with the NFU and they are absolutely brilliant. They are far from the cheapest, but worth every penny IMO. Have had three mobiles claimed off them in the last ten years with no quibble.

Most insurance companies do.
It's important not to under insure (or you'll be out of pocket if the house burns down) or to over insure (unneccesserily high premiums).
Always read the small print. Some place a limit on electrial items etc even if the total amount insured is higher.

Contents-only Insurance with Kwik-Fit Insurance - The actual renewal price was £74 initially, but they waived their commission after I said I was going to be shopping around this year, so it's dropped to £64 - I'll get the £10 back in 14 days.
(they're just brokers, my actual policy this year is with Royal Sun Alliance, I think)

Tesco for me (us). Although we own the house the insurance terms and conditions are the same for renting. The big plus for me was that my camera equipment is covered up to £1,500 per item. I queried them and have a letter confirming that if my bag is stolen (even from the car if I'm away from home) and despite the contents being 'joined' together (7D and 100-400mm L lens etc), the items will be looked upon as single items. All this without having to specify items to them beforehand.

This is interesting, as I was considering that I'd likely need to get separate camera gear insurance. Thanks everyone for the advice. I shall be shopping around and getting quotes over the weekend, hopefully. Mark

I'd forgotten to sort out our contents insurance and I have now been paid, so I did that this morning. We ended up with Legal & General.

I used the MoneySavingExpert thingy, which recommended Confused.com for 1-beds like we have, and then Tesco Compare (which came up with diddly squat in terms of quotes).
