I'm always rubbish at these because I can never remember the correct order in which to multiply. divide, subtract etc. From now onwards I shall try and remember "BODMAS". This is why I use Google to find the answer for me. Working on my own I answered "1", Google tells me the answer is 7. https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid ... 20&bih=979FWIW I got a "B" for GCSE Maths in 2003.

multiply and divide are truly the same operator so are equal in precedence and are done first. (2*0.25 = 2/4) substraction and addition behave in the same way (2+1 = 2-(-1)) then you just need to remember that you have to do all the multiply/ divide before adding/substracting.

I can't even remember what I got. It was either a B or a C (in 1995).

at this level they are. In real maths they do behave quite differently.
