I'll probably not be getting one if it's back lit, but will if it's front lit. The entire idea of an ebook reader is not to have a back lit screen that can hurt your eyes reading it. I was hoping for a higher resolution screen equivalent of the Kindle Touch. If that's what it is, then it's okay by me.
I've seen rumours of an 6th Sept release date, but nothing substantial.

If it does have those sort of improvements, I might wind up having a current Kindle in work and the new one at home :D

On wifi it means multi in multi out (or something similar). Basically there are multipul antenna to get a better/faster signal.
My G wifi has it at home. With a compatable wifi card in a laptop, it can be faster tan normal g and have a longer range.

I've had a quick google. Some reports are saying the ereader is back lit, some are saying it's front lit.
I hope it is front lit.

Hmmmm. They've just (in the last half hour) updated the Uk Amazon website.
Lots of talk about the Kindle Fire, but no mention of the new ebook readers, so maybe it is US only.
Well they can go forth and multiply if they think I'm buying one of the existing ones just because the new ones aren't available here.

Mr Bezos also unveiled a new dedicated ebook reader called the Kindle Paperwhite which will be released at the start of October - initially as a US-exclusive.

The 8.9in Kindle Fire HD is only being released in the US at this time

So the two best ones are both US exclusive, at least for the time being. Nice one, Amazon.

One of my mates is already talking about trying to get one sent over from the US.
He's a bit worried that it might not sync with his UK Amazon account though.

A quick Google suggests it's region-linked for tax and publishing reasons.
