As posted in the bargains thread, I ordered the homeplugs at the bottom there :)

Edit - go to the deals of the week

Update....

Having used the homeplugs without any problem for some months now, today I was faced with a puzzle. From the start my own pc was attached to a homeplug that itself was in a 4x power extention cable. I was aware that it was recommended that homeplugs were plugged directly into the socket but mine worked fine in the cable and I saw no need to make any adjustments. In recent weeks/days no changed have been made to the electrical system in the house and no devices have been added to/removed from the relevant extention cable.

So.... this morning my internet was off. Initially I thought it was a connection problem but then my son told me he was able to connect his pc in his bedroom upstairs (using a homeplug). So some diagnostics were in order.

1. Changed the network cable, removed the homeplug and connected pc direct to the router - system worked.
2. Used new cable to attach to homeplugn existing extention cable - no internet.
3 Replaced homeplug with spare - no internet.
4. Plugged homeplug into socket outside of the dining room - system worked.
5 Plugged same configuration directly into wall socket in dining room (removing extention cable) - no internet !

So it seems that the devices work in sockets outside the dining room but not inside the room. This has happened overnight. The sockets in the dining room are providing power as normal.

So I have 2 questions.

1. Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on here ?
2. Can someone recommend a wireless router and adaptor, preferably one that will work with the existing homeplugs for the 2 computers upstairs that don't have wireless adaptors.

Thanks Paul

Probably a loose connection on the socket plate. Isolate the supply, remove face plate and check the connections. I f they are loose it's a good idea to tighten them up as this can be a good fire starter...

Sound reply my friend and I'll check the connections out asap. The safety aspect of your response was greatly appreciated.

Will come back with any news.
