Bowie had a heart attack a couple of years ago didn't he? Pretty much retired full stop at that point. As much as him pegging it on stage would have been a news story, I think it was probably for the best.

He wouldn't have been the only one to die onstage that night...

His heart attack was in 2004 and he's performed on stage since then.

You have to realise to someone of my age, 2004 is 'a couple of years ago'.

Well I'm 40, and as seemingly fast as eight years passing by goes these days, eight years is still eight years. (8+)
And like I said, he's performed on stage since then.
Not that it really matters. I don't care who did or didn't get to play at the closing ceremony.

I saw a report on the beeb about other nation's opinions of London 2012 - the usual self-congratulatory nonsense "ooh, didn't we do well".

Anyway, they've got correspondents airing from other countries reading off the local newspaper headlines - USA, Germany, that kind of thing, all very positive - but the chap in France couldn't find a single nice thing the French media said about the games and our handling of it.

Could it be that he didn't read french papers?
The French media was really impressed by both the opening and closing ceremony as well as the facilities and seem to think it was great games overall.
Don't believe everything the beeb says. it's their job to make sure you keep hating and being scared of the French.

He looked like he was pretty thorough, actually, going through some of the big name papers.

Why would I want to hate or be scared of the French? I only know one Frenchman. Admittedly, he is a cock, but I can hardly hold a whole nation responsible for that. ;)

Too right lol. A decade now feels like a couple of years.

Bit of a thread resurrection but there's a parade in London on Monday for/of all the GB Olympics and Paralympics competitors. Not sure of the route for those in that there London to go see it, but it's being televised live on BBC 1 from 1.30 PM for those that can't make it.

Yeah, if you don't like Coldplay, it really isn't a good night's entertainment!
Great visually though, can't fault that - shame about the choice of music.
