I need to buy some decent shirts. Ordinarily, I'd go to the likes of Next/Burton's. Three things have stopped me: I've already bought all the shirts I like from them; the current ones are starting to wear despite being on a two week wear cycle; I hate anything other than standard fit.

Slim/tailored fit restrict me in the areas where I need the most movement. I've generally hated anything other than loose/baggy as it makes me feel as though I'm suffocating.

I've been recommended Zara, which though sounds like a girl's name, apparently stocks clothing for men.

Any other places I should look?

If it's just plain 'work' shirts, M&S are actually OK despite their 'grandad' image. Their 'collezione' range is pretty high quality I've found, although not cheap.

My shirts are: purple, pink, light blue (almost cyan but lighter), mid-blue, dark blue, burgundy, grey, white - these are the plain solid ones. I'm after stripes (I don't think chequered patterns work for me) and more variety/colours. Might pop down to M&S and John Lewis to have a look.

I also need shoes and seem to need them on an annual basis.

I hate clothes shopping.

I'm afraid I've bought loads of shirts, tops, jeans, jumpers from there. They do wear out eventually, but it takes ages!

Had a look at that but the only one they did that I liked was "cornflour stripe" and that reminds me of Fight Club.

You wouldn't think it, but MandM online had a lot of shirts in their catalogue, all sorts by the look of it.

If it's for work, I always swore by M&S (though it's been a while since I had that problem )

My two favourite shirts come from Hawes and Curtis. Don't be put off by the fact that they are a Jermyn Street shirt maker, their pricing is really quite reasonable. They certainly offer a little more 'interest' than a lot of places:

Jermyn street is the only acceptable wear, especially for a gp. I like Thomas pink, but for bargains Charles tyrwhitt is where you should be directing your attention. Not much more than high street and cheaper in a lot of cases.

Ooh I've a Gieves & Hawkes shirt that I like, and an Oswald Boateng number that I'd gladly recommend too.

Turnbull and asser is where you should really be looking though.

Thanks for the link. They look really nice and completely different to what I already have. My only concern is working out what all the frikkin' "cuts" mean because they offer similar/same patterns/colours in different cuts.


Yup I've had some of Tyrwhitt stuff being recommended.


£80 for a shirt that may get covered in blood/pus is more than I'm willing to spend. Might be nice for a formal situation though.


The latter is a bit OTT for me, looking at the website.

Nah, it's plain white, folding cuff, with a small deep purple ribbon inside the collar, runs just below the button hole, hidden buttons on the front.
Very simple.

Wow, I'm so glad I don't have to worry about this [LIFTED] anymore! I couldn't possibly spend that much on a shirt!
