Sadly, Parmageddon takes its first victim in the UK http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8099987.stmThe news outlets are talking up the risks to people with ailments such as asthma, diabetes, heart conditions from swine flu, which has put me in a cheery mood this morning.

How many people in the United Kingdom have died of "normal" flu so far this year...?
I'm willing to bet it's higher than one by several hundred, if not thousands.

This might sound... I grew up near Paisley. It was certainly the case that the general medical health was substantially below most of Europe. When my father was having heart problems, his doctor told him he was an anomaly for the are in that his blood pressure was normal for a man of his age. I can't help wondering how healthy this woman was, and whether this was a factor in her death. It's usually the old and infirm that are the first to go.

^True but a mate of mine (Aged 26) died of pneumonia. This is an infection which most people will be able to fight off unless immunocompromised. Usually the elderly may die because of their co-morbidities. But mate was fine until he had a viral illness, felt unwell, then developed pneumonia.

According to the BBC’s ticker, the baby has died. No news story to link to.
