Can we make him King please? Seriously, if we have to have Royals can we have him as King?

Long live King Stephen!

From a test preview of the Apollo 13 film.

Quote:
Ron Howard stated that, after the first test preview of the film, one of the comment cards indicated "total disdain"; the audience member had written that it was a "typical Hollywood" ending and that the crew would never have survived

That right there is why films should just be made as the director intended. Unless you're James Cameron, who through those cards realised women would drag their blokes along to see wishy-washy sh1te like Titanic and Avatar.

I have no problem with Apollo 13 in any way. The problem is that it is the stupidity of the audience. There were also comments about "did the ship have to sink?" for Titanic. So two real life events and they expect a different ending?

Stupidity, yes, but also plain ignorance. There was a huge spate of ignorance around the centenary of Titanic's sinking. Enormous quantities of stupid exploded onto Twitter and Facebook from people who previously had been completely unaware that the film was based on a real event, and that 1500 people had really died in the north Atlantic in 1912, and that some bloke had actually found the wreck and filmed it.

Now, it may not be their fault they don't have any basic historical knowledge, but it still doesn't come as any surprise to me that stupid wins every time.

My mate's girlfriend admitted shedding a few tears near the end of Apollo 13, fearing they didn't survive the re-entry.

She's an intelligent woman, but had zero knowledge of NASA history.

+1. I wore a shirt and tie to work the other day, for the first time in ages, and the amount of people who asked if I was going for an interview in the afternoon...

The something new I learned today: I can actually teach English without the aid of an interactive whiteboard, or any other gadgetry for that matter. Just me a whiteboard and pens and some hand-outs... :D

Americans have switched the meanings of "trapezium" and "trapezoid" relative to the British usage, because of a transcription error.

bandsaw or chainsaw? I know how much of a treemendous effort is to fell a tree, years ago me and my sis chopped a tree (illegaly) for [LIFTED] and giggles with a tiny axe. took hours but it was pretty epic watching it finally fall.

Chainsaw and Logging saw, band saw would be no use for a 30 year old, 2 year matured tree that was a third again the height of my parents 2 bedroomed house
