Problem is it almost inevitably does leave back doors etc open. Especially with the increasing prominence of digital sales, there's no way in hell the next gen of consoles will be as open as some people want them to be. Those people should just buy an Ouja and be done with it.

There may be the equivalent of an app store where people can sell lower budget/bedroom coder stuff for people to download but the big console corps aren't going to make a console that, out of the box, runs arbitrary unsigned code. Thats just never going to happen.

They could at least give people templates more often, like LBP. COD's going 'social' and modification's the next obvious big leap (I don't mean map packs ;) ). I'm keeping in mind that MS want Xbox as part of their PC platform and vice versa, though we'll see if that Gabe fella's right on his suspicions...

+1 for not going to happen. More likely to get game hacks which would put me off ps3 gaming altogether
