I just watched a non-UK Blu-Ray rip of this and it still has the scene censored. The tip of the sceptre just isn't there - like it's been digitally removed.

There's a scene were one of the main supporting characters gets stabbed in the back (and effectively run through) with a 'sceptre' that's actually more of a short spear. It's the character's big heroic bowing out scene and it is kind of mildly important to the plot - his death is the catalyst for The Avengers to come together to fight the big foe. In the film in the cinema, you actually see the end of the blade protruding from his chest and it's pretty obvious it's going to be a fatal wound. Apparently (I haven't had a chance to see the DVD yet) in the home version, he still gets stabbed but you don't actually see the blade in that action. I'm not sure if it changes the relevance of the scene to the movie overall, but it possibly changes the treatment of the bad guy somewhat - he's somewhat malevolent rather than violent for the most part and this is probably the most directly nasty thing he does in the whole film, so changing it to look less nasty.. I can kind of understand it in the general context of home video vs cinema but it seems a bit... petty. Of course the fanboys will be up in arms at anyone changing even a single frame of Saint Whedon's work but, in the grand scheme of things, my general opinion is 'get over it, it's just an action film'.

A lot of people are pissed off that the film has been needlessly edited (why show it in the cinema but not at home?), and left to find out for themselves after purchase (I actually noticed it, the scene felt wrong without knowing precisely why). It's hard to explain but it feels like somebody just took a pair of scissors to a negative if you'd seen the cinema version beforehand, I don't think it's totally about the tip of the spear but how badly it was edited.

The way it was shot (ie angles etc), I expected something to protrude through the chest. The character was stabbed through the chest - there's an exit wound and blood. It was such a tiny scene but belittles his death.

It's a film where a Norse god and a man in powered armour battle cyberdemons from another dimension and where an enormous green man punches a flying armoured killer whale on the nose. It's just a film and a pretty nonsensical one by any objective analysis. Making a fuss about a small re-edit is just the kind of 'knickers -in-a-twist' stuff that the internet lives on, but in the grand scheme of things? Really? It's not as if they dropped even a single shot. He still gets stabbed in the back. He still dies. He still has his final scene. They still use his death as a plot hook. The only difference is the actual stabbing is slightly less gruesome than it was before. The difference amounts to a fraction of a second. Nothing substantive has changed. At all. "Someone took a pair of scissors to it"? Are you serious? I've seen films that have been badly re-edited. They usually end up with 'Alan Smithee' as a director credit. This is not one of those. I appreciate that some people may feel ever-so-slightly patronised. But this is massive mountain out of tiny molehill stuff.

Lol, I'm not some Avengers fanboy whether film or comic book, I'm just saying I noticed that it stood out in the flow of the scene. I might not even have noticed had I not seen it on the big screen. I'm not even saying it upset me! What does grate is that it's another fcuk-up in a release full of them, compounded with the arrogance of the publishers.
Just so we're clear, I'm one of those people who avoids articles and clips that show movie mistakes etc, but it still jarred badly!

You're one of those people that avoid absolutely anything to do with a film to the point it's a miracle you watch them at all - might spoil the ending after all.

No, I just avoid ridiculously revealing trailers and articles where possible. I've even seen video game makers compllaining about the marketing department recently, so... Also, there's this thread

I thought half the problem was the Directors commentary that was advertised in the pre-release blurb not being included on the UK disk when it was on the US version

Screenwriter says Taken 3 is a go http://www.totalfilm.com/news/screenwri ... -3-is-a-go ... More Spy Shots Of Kinnaman As ROBOCOP!! - No spoilers, just the suit and character shots if you click the source link http://www.aintitcool.com/node/58981Looks pretty crap, but then so did Dredd and the design there turned out to be one of the better aspects. Though that's not saying much....

I'm not hating the Robocop costume. Quite a few cues taken from the original I reckon.
