Could I please have a rough location and a ball park figure for a 1/2 bed decentish, modernish flat/apartment in your local area from anyone that would like to help me out? (either with or without bills, whatever you have)
It would seem my area of the country is rapidly becoming the most expensive place to live relative to salaries and I'd just like to use anecdotal evidence from you lovely people to test that hypothesis...

Largely depends on the area of the city you live in, but a one or two bedroom flat will set you back 400-600pcm in most areas of the Welsh capital (typically without bills). Cardiff Bay is much more expensive, easily fetching £1000pcm+

In Sunny Aberystwyth I pay £320 every four weeks. Water is included, electric is on a key, and council tax is ~£80pcm. That's for one living room, one bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. My previous flat was £660pcm for the same quantity of rooms. It included water and electricity, council tax was ~£100pcm.
Aber is odd though, the huge number of students make property conditions low but prices high.

We could get a bit more for the money living in less choice areas, but not significantly more.

In Kingston you're looking at £800-900 for a 1 bed & £1000+ for a 2 bed

Living in the middle of nowhere, Warks, we pay £675 a month, £110 CT for a 3 bed semi with massive gardens and a 1/3 acre paddock by the side. Downside is no gas but electric is about £30 a month and we pay £300 per year for heating oil.

I'm currently in a shared house (with 5 other people) paying £350 a month all in. That includes bills, council tax, broadband, etc... But for that I'm living in a house that is falling down with people I don't really get on with. That's in Roundhay, Leeds, parking in the shared driveway.
Moving in a few weeks to Middlesbrough and will be paying £400 a month for a 1 bed flat (well kind of 2 bed flat). For that I get a private parking space in a locked garage but then I pay bills on top (except gas which is included as it is managed for the whole building).
A similar flat in leeds would cost over £600 a month.

Central Manchester (Whalley Range area), 425pcm plus bills - for a 1-bed ground floor flat. Heating is a gas boiler.
Bills are roughly...
Council Tax: £66 per month (includes 25% discount). Gas: Varies, but about £350-400 per year (on a gas card). Electric: Approx £400 per year (billed quarterly). Water: Approx £200 per year (billed every 6 months - on a water meter) Home Contents Insurance: About £80 per year. Car Insurance: £500ish for a '10 reg Ford Fiesta 1.25 - this year that's dropped from about £600+ the last 2 years.
In the trendier areas, such as Didsbury and Chorlton-cum-Hardy, you'd pay around £700-800 for a similar sized flat.

So it seems like the North is where it's at...
A Scottish friend on Facebook last night said £400 for brand new 1 bed flats. Starting to get a little depressed at the state of things here. I'm 31 in 6 days, I have no money, nowhere to live (aside from with my parents that I don't really speak to) and a minimum wage job with a bunch of retards. Maybe I should give up and accept that renting or buying here ain't gonna happen and start looking harder at international options...

It can vary massively in Notts depending on the area and street. I lived in a modern 1 bedroom flat for £425pcm and a 3 bedroom house for £525pcm just outside the city centre. I now rent a three bedroom house a mile or two up the road and it went up to £700pcm.
Modern flats in the city centre will be much more too.

Rents have shot up round here. Dorchester area would be around 600-750 with council tax about 125-140 a month.
