Grinning Price Charles, yesterday.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19959233I’m wondering what the “frank views” are. It would be a hoot if he were an atheist, and that those views were expressed in the letters as it would bugger up his title “Defender of the Faith”. He has in the past stated that he wanted to be “Defender of Faith” - which encompasses and acknowledges other religions. “The Faith” in this context being the Church of England, which the monarch is officially head of. Of course, people want to see what’s in these letters even more. They will likely be terminally dull.

Though how would you feel if all your letters to government departments were published? No matter who he is he deserves some rights to privacy.

Provided his letters haven't been making material attempts to change government policies, then I might agree with you. The assumption, though, is that an unelected head of state in waiting may be using his position to influence government policy. If that's the case, then we ought to be allowed to see what he's been up to. That's democracy.

Frankly, I think in general that any letters from anyone sent to a government department should be open to scrutiny.
There may be some small exceptions were someone's privacy or safety might be at stake, but in general I think we should be allowed to know what's going on in our government.

Yes but why not start with government contracts. Lets not have any of this we cannot disclose because of commercial confidentiality rubbish. This involved real money being spent by our government.

Hang on, we may have a 'democracy' of sorts, but it's by Royal permission. Frankly, if Liz HRH decides we're not going to see the letters, then that's that. We won't see the letters.

I guess. Except a panel of judges - nominally standing in the monarch's stead as arbiters of justice, I believe - has already ruled these letters should be released. It's a government minister who has turned around and refused to release them.

If they're private, how's it any different to someone writing to their MP or council. Nobody expects those to be published. It's not as if Charles has even a shred of power. He's just a grumpy old man.

Anyone in politics who looks at getting a peerage or a knighthood may do well to listen to anyone with an HRH title.
