I think that hydrogen creates more problems in terms of safe storage.

The big issue with the main renewables (Wind & Solar) is the storage of the power for when its needed. Even if this is not that efficient it could give the renewables a way for storing excess power - wind for example being usless at night where there is very little demand - this way thay can run and produce "fuel" to be burnt in a powerstation at peak demands

There is also the opportunity to make enough petrol so that we do not have to import any once the North Sea reserves run dry.
