You'd have to be mad to buy one rather than a Nexus 7. Literally have your marbles loose.

It largely depends on how much typing you do. If you're a browser rather than a typer, clearly the Nexus 7 is for you.

However, you find me a laptop with a better resolution for less than £250...

Well, I could find you a bluetooth keyboard to use together with a tablet, that would do just as well. And it still wouldn't cost you as much.

I mean, I don't really see the fact that something that really isn't much use at all is only £250 as a real plus to be honest with you.

I'm sure I saw something on twitter that said it only lasted 6 hours...You'd get my g better battery life from a tablet.

I recently read a very long blog by a guy that had been using a Chromebook exclusively for a while.

The short version:

1. It looked lovely and he got compliments on how slim it was.
2. He couldn't hand on heart recommend it to anyone.
3. A lot of the time, he ended up using his Android phone to achieve what the Chromebok couldn't do.

I honestly don't get why they don't just put Chrome on an "Android-book", but then I've never used one myself. I'm not going to either - I'd rather spend the cash on the new iPad mini assuming there is such a thing.

Speak for yourself, I'm pretty sure I could satisfy 99% of my computing needs with Chrome OS. For example, Google Docs has been my main word processor for some time.

Fine. But you can satisfy 98% of it with a device that costs £100 less. Unless you're desperate to throw your money away, why bother.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you spend all day typing, you'd be a fool to buy a Nexus 7...

That said, wi-fi only, no ethernet port and no 3G, so pretty useless here - work has no wi-fi and home office has no wi-fi (well, there is wi-fi, but I get around 0.012mbps from my 802.11n network!

I'll stick with my 15.6" Sony Vaio, full HD, 8GB RAM and Core i7 for processing my RAW photos, I don't think a Nexus 7 or the ChromeBook are really an alternative.

Edit: The other thing is, I use multiple windows when working, I generally have 2 or 3 open windows on my second display as reference material and work on a new document on the main display. Not sure how you would achieve reading 3 different reference sources while writing a document on a Nexus 7... The ChromeBook at least now allows multiple windows.

I can't help but feel this is all about four years too late. It seems to be the perfection to the Netbook, which became popular around 2008 and fell out of popularity in around 2010 (personal observations in an around uni/work).

It's not being marketed as an alternative to an expensive laptop for someone who uses it like you.

It's being marketed to people like my giddy aunt who does nothing more than Facebook and Google Documents.

I've never really understood what they are being marketed as - a cheap Windows netbook would be a much better bet all round, far as I can tell
