Pop group Girls Aloud have announced plans for their 10th anniversary reunion at a London press conference.

The five-piece will release a greatest hits album, Ten, on 26 November, which will be followed by a 12-date arena tour in 2013.

Band member Cheryl Cole said: "We're really excited. It feels like nothing has changed."

The news comes 10 years to the day since the bandmates first appeared on ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals.

Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding were selected to form a girl group, then pitched against a "rival" boyband, One True Voice, in a race to number one.

The band recorded their comeback material in secret earlier this year
Girls Aloud took the top spot with Sound Of The Underground and went on to score 20 consecutive top 10 hits between 2002 and 2009. One True Voice split up after just two singles.

The greatest hits album will feature four new songs, including this year's Children In Need song, Something New. Fans will also be able to choose the tracklisting of a deluxe edition.

Roberts said: "It's worked out really nicely that it's our 10th anniversary year. It was meant to be."

"We've all been out there on our own for the last few years and we've all thrown ourselves in at the deep end on different things, so for most of us it feels so comfortable to be back together," added Walsh.

"It's like a comfort blanket."

Sounds like someone needs money.

They've realised their voices/sining aren't good enough for solo careers.

Nadine had the best singing voice but never one for interviews.

I've no idea which one that is. All I know about them is:
There's Cheryl whats-her-face
The ugly one
The rest of them

This really winds me up actually. They're on a 'reunion' tour after not performing together for three years? Three whole years? If you actually play your own sodding instruments and write your own sodding songs, it takes you three years to make an album and tour it, so that sort of gap is nothing unusual at all. I've bought two CDs in the last month or so by artists who haven't recorded any new material in something like six years.

'Reunion'? Marketing arseballs of the worst sort. An attempt to con the clueless into attaching value to their latest promotional exercise far beyond what it actually has.

You are right three years is barely a separation, and so barely justifies a "we are only doing this for the money" reunion tour. Many bands take standard breaks between albums longer than this.

Wow, awesome. Their absence was such a loss for the music industry. :|

I wasn't aware that any of them, other than Cheryl Cole, had a solo career. Not that hers is anything to shout about - she's very attractive, until she opens her trap.

In other news, I hear Cher is getting back together. ;)

Really? When we have threads for Rachel Riley and Christina Hendricks? Some of us are culture vultures though not in the same vein as Megadeath they could be described loosely as a five girl singing troupe. ;)

*shrug* I listen to classical music, pop music (particularly Swedish pop music oddly), folk music....

I believe I've already posted the Steve Earle quote that applies...
