A bride-to-be was left “humiliated” after trying to book an exclusive hotel for her £10,000 dream wedding, and instead receiving an email saying she and her fiance were the “wrong type of people”.

That kind of attitude is horrendous and will only harm them.

I've heard of hotels not wanting gypo weddings due to a sterotype (rightly or wrongly) that they'll get damaged.

The suggestion that the member of staff responsible for the gaff was being "dealt with internally" conjured up entirely the wrong mental image involving a red hot poker for some reason.

Okay, it's a 5 star hotel but what hotelier in their right mind is going to turn down a minimum of £10k worth of business? Nuts!

I'm not married but I've been involved with the planning of a few. Given the amount of notice most decent venues seem to ask for, I think it's very much a seller's market.

Oh for goodness sakes.
There's no shortage of palatial piles in that part of the world that'd be glad to take your stack of cash.
The venue absolutely has the right to refuse admission, so to speak.
Why is this even in the papers?

It's in the papers because there doesn't seem to be a 'proper' reason for turning this couple down. They also lied to her about availability, it seems :|

I'd say she'll get one hell of a discount there now since they're already backpeddaling...

Would she want to spend any money there now? I wouldn't if that was me. If my money's not good enough for then, I'd spend my £10k elsewhere.

I was thinking along those lines too, but I'd at least see what I could squeeze out of them first, even if I didn't take them up on it. 'It's looking bad for your business as it is...' etc

Because the hotel's reason for turning them away is both shameful and indefensible.

I hope the couple see the hotel in the county court.

This is, of course, the same Daily Mail that prints private pictures of famous women in bikinis, some of whom are a whole 16 years old.

Yeah, I know. Just passing a link along though, I don't agree with what they stand for. Not in the least. Other "red tops" are now carrying the same story as well.
I guess we now know what TV channel the hotel manager is usually watching!
:P
