Everything depends on how the allegations were worded, but part of my reasoning for buying a PS3 was that the online services were free. And the system wasn't fecking cheap!

Again, depends on the wording, but IIRC Sony put out a very misleading statement when it must have known about the intrusion and apparent theft of user details. Weren't they in plain text in some cases? That's not Sony doing all it could have done, and it's certainly not a reasonable expectation of security, network or not.

It is one reason why I hate using a credit card for such sites. I have an XBox Live account but have done very little with it and no credit card details will go on it.
