Yes, it's inflammatory, but I still laughed. :)

I'm always amused by the number of sheep just rushing to bleat on the latest Apple tech whilst calling potential users iSheep. I'm not entirely sure what makes these users of other brands any more superior or less sheep like than Apple users?

Get over it.

Apple saw the explosion in the smaller form factor and the implications of people not being locked into its ecosystem and came up with the maxi iPod.

Just seen the specs. for the iPad Mini.

A dual-core A5 chip
1024x768 screen (163ppi)
£70 more expensive than the Nexus 7.

This was my initial reaction. I was very surprised when I heard the price. When you consider the Nexus 16GB is £70 cheaper than the Mini 16GB it's no contest, especially when the Nexus adds a higher resolution screen and a Tegra 3.

But then I decided to look a little deeper.

The Mini is an aluminium unibody design so I'd bet my right arm it has better build quality
The screen, although only .9 inches bigger (diagonally) actually has a 35% larger screen area - 21.9 sq in versus 29.6 sq in
The mini has a 1.2MP front facing camera like the Nexus but also a 5MP rear camera which the Nexus does not
The mini is thinner and lighter (but taller and wider)
The Nexus has up to 8 hours battery life - the Mini has up to 10

Is that worth the £70 difference? I guess the consumers will decide. Me personally (even though I have an Android phone) I'd be tempted to go with the Mini.

It'll be £300 cheaper, hewn from titanium with strontium edging, have a 4k screen and make your bowel movements smell like freshly baked cinnamon rolls.
;)

I think the only thing I'd put money on is it being cheaper than the iPad.

That and unicorns. There has to be unicorns.

I bet people who rushed out and got the "new iPad" less than a year ago feel rather ripped off now the iPad 4 is already out.

I don't really get the whole 'thing is obsolete as soon as something new comes out' thing. if I had an iPad 3 and it did all the things I needed it to do on Monday, it would almost certainly still do all the things I needed it to do today. And it's not as if the 'big' iPad announced this week is actually qualitatively better than the iPad 3, it's just an internal speedbump. The word 'obsolete' doesn't mean what that attitude implies, and it never has.

This happens with most of the things we buy. I bought a fridge about six months ago. I just went and had a look and there's a new model on the company's web page. Am I suddenly fed up? No, why would I be? My fridge still keeps my milk cool so it doesn't go off straight away. I bought a new car a month ago. I paid A LOT more for it than an iPad costs. At some point, in a year or maybe two, that car design will be 'refreshed' and my car will no longer be 'the newest thing', or they'll bring out a 'turbo nutter' edition, or something like that. Will my car react as if it was a clown car, with doors and wheels falling off in a puff of smoke? I suspect not. Will I still have a car that I love to drive and makes me happy? I hope so, because if I don't it means I've wrapped it round a tree or something.

You know what getting upset about the fact there's a newer version of some gadget than they've got actually say about someone? It says 'I measure my self-worth by the desirability of the objects I own, not on what I am or what I do'. And that's pretty effing sad, in my book.

My phone is now two generations old. My iPad is now, well, technically four generations old.I really can't say either of these facts bother me per se.

Friend of mine made some cinnamon buns this weekend using a traditional Swedish recipe. Oh my lord. I'm not a fan either generally but they were lovely.
