Personally I am in favour of this. By all means have something in place not to remove it for people already in receipt but bring it in for all new claimants from xx date

Put it this way: when I was a medical student on GP placement in a rough part of Southampton, I witnessed teen mothers. Why did they get pregnant? Because they knew as teen mothers, they'd get priority housing and benefits and all they had to do was spread their legs. When we're paying to support people who have no reason to work, I do ask myself sometimes why I should bother. Particularly as this class of people seem to "demand" everything eg antibiotics for colds etc. They feel the world owes them and I so dearly want to donate a punch to the face.

Britain has rapidly ageing population and government claims it can't find its pension liabilities...decides to legislate to reduce number of children being born, makes perfect sense.

Indeed. The only reason child benifits exist was to support people after the war when we needed to increase the population and people were skint or had lost everything. That need has long gone.

Only if those working now save much more for their pension. Which they will not. So ultimately the pensions crisis will get bigger because people simply did not save enough. They blew it on flash cars and bigger houses.

I would like to make plain that I was actually being sarcastic. Britain's going to experience a large squeeze on spending if the number of working-age people in the economy shrinks.

In which case I apologise. I do think that many people have no idea of how our pensions are financed right now. If we have a falling working population then the tax burden will rise, and governments are robbing the schemes now to fund tax cuts. Screw those who are yet to start working. They might be better off leaving the country altogether.
