Quote:
Donations to charity have fallen by 20% in real terms in the past year, with £1.7bn less being given, says a report.

The amount fell from £11bn to £9.3bn in 2011/12 - a fall of £2.3bn when adjusted for inflation, the study said.

The number of people donating fell - as did the amounts they gave, from an average of £11 to £10 a month.

Yeah, we've given less over the last 18-24 months. Although, on several occasions during that time, we've been coppering up to see out the last few days until pay day.

The article isn't really a surprise though, is it? Most people are skint, and you can't give away what you don't have.

I have been sticking to the standing orders which I have been paying for years. Though like most I have been economising. So much for the governments hope that the charity sector will step in when they pull out.

There's nothing 'close to my heart' and I'm rarely in town and do my shopping online, so... If someone asks in work or whatever I throw a few quid in.

I've definitely trimmed down what I give to reflect the strains on the household budget, the intention is to increase the amount I give again when (if?) the situation improves.

We defiantly give less but then SWMBO does now work for the main charity we support and she took a 30% pay cut to do that

I actually consider the charity contributions I make as part of my 'fixed expenditure'. So they haven't really changed at all. I am in the lucky situation that I'm under no real pressure to economise though.
