Quote:
Defeated Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has blamed his election loss on "gifts" President Barack Obama gave minorities.

Mr Obama gave "a lot of stuff" to African Americans, Hispanics and young voters - groups key to his victory, Mr Romney told donors on Wednesday.

Mr Romney's comments were his first since his election concession speech.

He lost the 6 November election by a wider margin than many expected, failing to win key swing states.

Mr Obama secured re-election with 332 electoral votes to Mr Romney's 206, with battlegrounds including Ohio, Virginia and Florida all falling to the president.

'Troubled by the past'
Mr Romney's remarks come as Republican state governors gather in Las Vegas, Nevada, to discuss the party's route forward.

"The Obama campaign was following the old playbook of giving a lot of stuff to groups that they hoped they would get to vote for them... specifically the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people," Mr Romney is reported to have said.

The man who predicted Obama's win
The former Massachusetts governor noted that Mr Obama's 2010 Affordable Care Act was a "huge plus" for some voting groups.

"With regards to African-American voters, 'Obamacare' was a huge plus - and was highly motivational," he said in the call.

"You can imagine for somebody making $25, or $30, or $35,000 [£22,000] a year, being told you're now going to get free healthcare, particularly if you don't have it, getting free healthcare worth, what, $10,000 a family, in perpetuity, I mean this is huge," he added.

Mr Romney also noted that allowing people under 26 years old to stay on their parents' insurance plans had been very popular with young people, and offering what he called an "amnesty" to the children of illegal immigrants appealed to Hispanic voters.

Still out of touch.

Um.. yeah. How exactly does giving gifts to minorities end up with you having a majority of the votes?

It appears Romney's maths hasn't improved since the election.

He clearly lost the support of single women who think that his policy was nuts. In fact he lost significant share of every minority except old white men.

The man hasn't even the wit to hide the fact he's a sociopath. Even worse, there's clearly voters who think that's a good thing! :(

No different to the 'gifts' for rich people Romney wanted to give.
Pre election give aways are common for all parties in government in the UK too.

He clearly exhibits all the signs of a sociopath if not psychopath. He clearly lacks empathy which is one sign of psychopathy.

Sour? They are off the scale. He obviously thought that he had bought the presidency and I suspect that even more voter suppression will be the outcome for the next few elections.

The GOP talking heads were predicting a large win for Romney, some of whom seemed extremely, almost arrogantly, confident; which might explain why so many of them are kicking up a fuss and stirring rumours of secession. Pity we couldn't see their faces as the results came in.

If Obama did win through tipping his hat to minority groups, at least he had the nous to realise that they were still voting American citizens. Romney seems to think that middle-aged middle class conservatives are the only interest group in the country.

Didn't Obama explicitly make this point in one of his later speeches? Something along the lines of 'The republicans say I'm angling for the votes of blacks, hispanics, gays, liberals and women. Or, as I all them, Americans'.

I think the republicans problem wasn't that they thought all the people that mattered were white, I think they thought all people that mattered were rich. And in America (and here, to be fair), the people who are rich are, in the main, white.

Well that goes down to how they are funded. By old rich white 1%ers. Everyone else is irrelevant.

It's quixotic though. If all you care about are the tiny minority who give you massive campaign contributions and you ignore the mass of other voters in favour of them, you're going to lose the election - because most votes wins... - and thus you're going to have wasted the billions of dollars they gave you. So they'd be better off just not giving you the money, and you'd be better off just not wasting the effort of campaigning.

if you can't appeal to the majority, you're going to lose. That's about the most fundamental truth that exists in representative democracy.

Are they really that dumb that they don't see that?

Romney's 47% speech springs to mind.

It does ignore the fact that his supporters were also welfare queens in wanting special tax privileges and no tax hikes. So he clearly fails to see the similarity of one side to the other. Clearly self delusion runs deep in this one.

He lost. Why is what he says even relevant or news-worthy now?

However, highlighting the fact that *all Americans* - be them poor, rich or whatever, all have an equal vote ... and then saying that's not fair? LOL - he really isn't a democrat, is he
