Corby turnout is confirmed as 44.8% so not too bad - still means over half the people who could vote couldn't be bothered

strangely there are other areas of Newport I'd have thought that more likely to happen in.

Is it just me?
I had absolutely no idea what the vote was for or who the possible candidates were.
I would consider myself fairly up on that sort of thing so I'm really not surprised at the turn out.
Can anyone explain what the vote was for?

I thought that it was something to do with X Factor.

It's a vote for you to decide who you want to fill a completely unnecessary and impotent sinecure for the next few years, while all that 's important and useful in society pokes it's feet in the air and twitches fitfully, before being sold off to someone who went to school with a member of the cabinet.

Well it seems unlike everyone else I actually went to the website and read the candidates' statements. I was disappointed to see that only 4 people were standing in South Wales (force area). I didn't expect the independent candidates to perform any sort of leaflet drop (it's an expensive business) but I know at least one of the independents spent time going door to door. Labour have a very active presence in the city, particularly since they took control of the council earlier this year, so there was information forthcoming about their candidate. I didn't hear a jot out of the Tories. I voted Independent, but my preferred candidate lost out to Labour in the second round of counting.

I'm still waiting for my postal ballot papers to arrive. I got a letter telling me to expect them about 3 weeks ago, but so far nothing...
