I'm pretty sure she was named at the time, her photo was certainly everywhere :?

I'll be interested to see how this Twitter/McAlpine thing pans out. I seriously doubt judges will be stupid enough to set precedents without clear intent in some of the tweets. And many of the rest are highly arguable IMO.

While she might have mentioned the name it was absolutely everywhere. I was sent jokes with her name in regard to problems with Apple Maps. This was a missing teen and her name was all over the place. I doubt that she could be found guilty under the circumstances. It was public knowledge.

Sally Bercow always seems to be in trouble. I don't know why she can't engage her brain before speaking/tweeting.

A court made what is known as a Section 39 Order under the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, which forbids naming the girl involved in the case.
The order states: "Any publication by whatever media in breach of this order is punishable by a fine in the sum of £5,000."

She's guilty as hell. She named the child after the court order was issued and as ignorance is no defence I'm waiting with baited breath for her to be found guilty (again).

I've always thought it totally unreasonable and actually immoral that you can be prosecuted for breaking a law that you didn't know existed. It's extreme ignorance on behalf of those making the law to assume that everyone automatically instantly knows about it.

Seriously; if you have no clue that there is some court order in force forbidding something that everyone else is doing, then surely that should be a good enough defence? It's absolutely obvious that no one was aware it was criminal, so it's absolutely unjustifiable to issue anything more than a warning clarifying the legal position.

If someone then goes on to repeat the offence, having now been informed that it actually is an offence, then that's a different matter.

I'm confused. Is this {insert name here} that ran away with her Maths teacher to France. As in the same person that had her name and image all over the media including here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9561168/Teenage-schoolgirl-15-runs-away-with-30-year-old-teacher.html

and here:

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/24/14063433-police-uk-teen-thought-to-have-run-away-to-france-with-her-math-teacher?lite

and here:

+1. This is completely confusing. I knew her name because it had been plastered all over the media. Now a silly law has been brought into place after she was identified? Complete and utter nonsense.

Right. So not only has everyone already seen her name but it's still out there for all to see with a simple Google search. I feel like a boat image could follow this post. I'm not sure what kind of boat though. Something big and possibly sinking. Yeah, a sink-boat. Someone should make an image macro of a sinking boat to represent something really stupid happening on the internet.

I have a feeling that the police disclosed her name because she was missing and there was a recent case of a missing girl being found dead in a bin somewhere. So they were playing safe to find her as fast as possible.

^^^That was my impression too. She was named to maximise publicity and hence chances of finding her. I still don't see any reason why she should be "protected" though.

I think that the only reason is that her teacher is about to be prosecuted for her abduction. The girl was love with him so hardly forced though he could have done more to stop her.
