And I was called a 'hardy perennial' the other day for not wearing a jacket... I don't even know what that means

He asked if "one naked man" required two fire engines, eight squad cars and four mounted police.

Scotland Yard said the man had been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A force spokesman said: "You apply the appropriate amount of policing for the situation.

"Obviously in a situation like this, public safety is paramount."

Wow how many police needed? You could clearly see that he was not carrying a weapon. Unless he was a magician you could see he had nothing up his arms. Maybe the police officer who ordered the large numbers of people should also be detained under the Mental Health Act.

The part that amused me was that so many businesses lost money because of the closure. Will George Osbourne use that as one of the reasons for the economy slumping next month? ;)

George clearly wants it to harden.

He broke off bit of the statue and was waving it around, so maybe that's it alongside the damage charge. It's that or the smutty alternative

Well that is criminal damage. Waving it around does not make it an offensive weapon.

It's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it

It arguably does.

From the Prevention of Crime Act 1953:

Quote:
...“offensive weapon” means any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to the person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use by him

I can see your point but was that actually his intention? Football fans wave rattles not as a weapon but to get attention. Though the fine for damaging the statue should be high enough to actually pay for its repair.
