I think waking for network access only works if the network is a cable as opposed to WiFi.

Okay, to be accurate, I can ping while it's awake, it never really sleeps. Screen off, sleep indicator pulsing, something is quietly whirring. Mark

This would be a pain in the backside as I'd need to copy off all the data first. Not looking forward to that, but if I have to then I have to. Mark

Have you got the 'wake for network access' tickbox ticked in the Energy Saver system preference?

Have you read the thread, Jon? (8+D (8+p To answer your question, I did have but now I don't. It just seems to be sleep mode that's not working as advertised. (8+/ Mark

Any messages in console?
Wired keyboard or BT (I did read the thread but I've forgotten if I saw that or not).
Mine usually has the opposite problem (i.e. it keeps waking up and won't stay asleep)

Yes according to Tapatalk, but obviously I'd forgotten the OP. In any case I was mainly replying to the post about not being able to ping a machine while its asleep. if you've got that setting set off, I don't think responds to ping. You haven't used one of the various hacks to enable 'deep sleep' (what Windows boxes refer to as 'hibernation') by any chance have you? Shouldn't matter. I have two macs both with BT keyboards and both happily wake from sleep if I tap a key. You might have to tap two - one to wake the keyboard, one to send a keystroke to the Mac - but that would be all.

For power-related problems like not waking and not sleeping, trashing this file and then restarting immediately can sometimes help... Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration > com.apple.PowerManagement.plistA new "com.apple.PowerManagement.plist" file will be created after you set up your sleep settings again in System Preferences > Energy Saver - but you need to restart after trashing that file. More details here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetenergysaverprefs.htmlIf no better, try a SMC reset (System Management Chip), which usually just involves shutting down and unplugging it from the mains for a few minutes. On Intel Macs, the SMC reset replaces the PMU reset I think.

Nope. I try to keep my Macs as hack-free as possible (user excluded). Mark

I find that when you have to do that you might still need to do the Cntrl-Alt-P-R (twice) to reset it. I do it three times and so far that has worked.
