Quote:
A couple have had three foster children removed from their care because they belong to the UK Independence Party.
Rotherham Borough Council said the children were "not indigenous white British" and that it had concerns about UKIP's stance on immigration.

Quote:
The couple, who have been approved foster parents for seven years, were eight weeks into the placement when they were approached by social workers about their membership of the party.

The wife told the Daily Telegraph: "I was dumbfounded. Then my question to both of them was, 'What has UKIP got to do with having the children removed?'

"Then one of them said, 'Well, UKIP have got racist policies.' The implication was that we were racist. [The social worker] said UKIP does not like European people and wants them all out of the country to be returned to their own countries."

Jesus. That council patently doesn't know the defamation laws at all.

Unfortunately I doubt that even a huge payout will change the social workers attitudes. They are pretty much a defective bunch from my experience. I cannot see how being a member of UKIP would make them racists, stupid maybe but racists no.

You can't defame a political party. Public authorities and political parties are unable to pursue libel claims after the House of Lords ruled they should be subject to uninhibited public criticism.

I think that the family would have been defamed.

It's like living in Soviet Russia.

Indeed. Not only have they allegedly described the party as racist (which is up for debate but is something they vehemently object to) but they've effectively publicly demonstrated the statement that the family are unfit to foster because as members of a racist party they must also be racist.

The row took a further twist when No 10 was asked about statements David Cameron made during a radio interview in 2006, in which he described Ukip's members as "fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists, mostly". Downing Street said the Prime Minister had not intended people to understand that he thought all Ukip members were racists.

Asked what the specific problem was with the couple being Ukip members, Mrs Thacker told the BBC: "We have to think about the clear statements on ending multi-culturalism for example.

"These children are from EU migrant backgrounds and Ukip has very clear statements on ending multiculturalism, not having that going forward, and I have to think about how sensitive I am being to those children."

She must have said 'going forward' at LEAST six times in the interview she gave Breakfast, to the extent that she brainwashed Louise Minchin into asking what the weather was going to be like 'going forward'

That sounds like BS. One of those terms that defines an age. Going Forward, like it is an objective, which it should be rather than a mission statement.

I call BS on the whole story. I would surmise that therenismkore to it than it being let on. The UKIP connection is likely to be a smokescreen. This will be subject to child protection rules, so the real circumstances won't be known. I guess someone made a noise about the UKIP connection because it's likely to be the one to raise eyebrows, and to put the social workers on a back foot publicly.

David Cameron: you have been played.

if it is BS, i wonder why Rotherham council had someone defending the decision on breakfast time, actually stating that the couple belonging to UKIP was the prime reason the children were removed.

Because a fuss has been raised on this. They can't exactly deny this is the reason because they would be posed to reveal the real reason. Even stating that the are child protection issues at hand could prejudice or damage any work being done behind the scenes.
