Good stuff, but I propose a total ban for womankind's own good ;)

TBH most of these magazines should be banned on the basis of dangers they pose. As far as I can tell, they hold the ideal of the "perfect woman" against whom 99.999999999% of women will fail in some way, shape or form. Too fat, boobs not big enough, arse too big, wrong hair, bad skin, not healthy enough, not thin enough, too sexually promiscuous, too sexually naive etc. All a load of bollocks IMO.

Some of the girls teen mags are just as bad.

"Fat woman criticises diets"

Does anyone here buy such magazines? Is there any evidence that unhealthy dieting advice is still being given, or should we believe the what the publisher says:

Ms Johnson wrote:
"Most magazines now are very much about holistic wellbeing.

"I don't think many magazines nowadays do the whole miracle fad diet thing. It's seen as very irresponsible and they want to make sure their readers stay with them, trust them and are loyal to them.

"Readers do go to them for advice, rather than the government,"

I strongly suspect far more people are eating diets that are too rich and lacking fresh vegetables, making them fat and unhealthy, than are on "fad diets" becoming thin and malnourished.

Just because you can afford it doesn't make every day a feast day...

My mother and sister buy them. If it's not an article on what the diet is, it's telling you who's supposedly on it. Usually on the cover! And women going to the average mag for advice? If it's true it actually explains a lot :(

I think that most people are simply time poor and so eat ready meals and foods that are overloaded with sugar and salt.
