I agree on Skyfall and TDKR - I don't remember seeing an 'honest' mainstream review for either

Define "honest". Just because you don't agree with the opinion of the reviewer doesn't allow you to conclude that the review was somehow corrupt.

It's entirely possible for two people to see the same film and get different things from it, or come away with different opinions of it. For example, I suspect my opinion of the Dark Knight Returns (in fact the entire recent trilogy) is markedly different from yours but I'm entirely certain nobody has paid me anything to influence that opinion.

(note: I have no great wish to get into a discussion about those films, so should you wish to, you'd be doing it on your own).

Christ, all I meant was you'd think you were in for something truly epic the way they were hyping them up, and every review I saw glossed over fundamental flaws (Bane's voice in general, for instance!). There were certainly any number of blogs that managed, by almost anyone's definition of a proper review I'd wager, to be more balanced.

Just watched Jack Reacher. I wanna say it was an awesome film and that I loved every minute of it. I didn't. I felt like I was promised something and it didn't live up to my expectations. It didn't fail them as badly as TDKR. Having watched the film, I love the character of Reacher. I love the premise of the story. What wasn't done so well was the execution. I think the first half was done quite well and crafted nicely but at the points where it should pick up the pace, it kind of doesn't. Consequently we end with a finale that doesn't feel like one. One particular scene which was "humurous" just felt out of place out of the entire film whilst the rest, albeit small snippets, felt natural.

Gonna give it 3/5. Would have been 4/5 if they had livened it up a bit. 5/5 if thu had picked someone other than Tom Cruise. He just isn't tall enough nor imposing enough to be menacing. Ray Stevenson or perhaps even Thomas Jane would have been perfect. However, I'd certainly watch a sequel and I'm gonna see if the books are on kindle.

Rosamund Pike - [LIFTED] me she was hot. No idea who she was before and didn't pay much attention at the beginning of the film but once she started showing her cleavage, my eyes popped out of my head, my tongue hung out my mouth and I was pitching a tent the size of mount everest. She reminded me of that blonde bird from CSI Miami. I'm not into blondes but both have been enough to cause me to make exceptions. Part of me loved how the shots and poses further enhanced the boobage but part of me hated how much it distracted me from the film. Either way, she's definitely in my Top 20.

Frankie Boyle - The Last Days of Sodom

Some of it's fantastically funny, most of it is just being crude without even a real punchline (such as they are with Frankie). And sometimes that works, but not often here.

Less likely but possible.
She just seems so bloody familiar to me.

Life of Pie

Just seen this in 3D. I have to say, 3D is not growing on me. Once again the point of view shifted around wildly, and often gave the impression you were right up close to a giant world rather than immersed in a realistic one. The effect would have been better on a much smaller screen. I think the "sweet spot" was probably about half a click outside the theatre and in the car park.

However, the film was beautiful and the story well told. The tiger is incredibly believable. It would surprise me if it picks up a few well deserved awards.

It's easily the best film I've seen this year.

Shravanthi Sainath played her role beautifully, and I was amazed to read that she's just 17 and still in school. I hope this is just the first of many film parts for her:
