My first thought was "Ewwwww" but then it occurred to me that you can't have much in the pants if you can make them last 4 days!!

Nah - just no sense of smell :D

Morning everyone.

It isn't my first post of the day so bloody sue me! :P

I've contacted my solicitor who's advised me this probably isn't a wise course of action.

Sounds like a good plan, although you've made me feel hungry now.

Glad everything worked out with your boyfriend. :)

When my mum passed on she was down visiting my sis in Lincolnshire - 500 miles away. She took ill and was taken to hospital. I had some pressing work issues at the time and the family decided to play down the seriousness of her illness in order that I could concentrate. I did get a call one morning though and within an hour I was on that long drive (flights checked but nowt available).

A 500 mile drive with those thoughts running through your head is not nice. I arrived at the hospital and as we got to the ward the staff asked us to hold on a few minutes - what we didn't know is that mum had passed away as we were coming up in the lift.

I didn't get to say a proper goodbye to my mum Dave but you've got the chance. I envy you and feel for you at the same time. Coming to terms with the situation will be much harder though and I'm sure I speak for all on here when I say our thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Yeah, I got a shocking call from my brother. They've been downplaying the seriousness, so I'd been planning on spending my summer holiday there in September/October, when she came out of hospital - I can't afford to fly over often.

Now that time is so short, I find I feel cheated and my brother is angry that I haven't been flying back 2 or 3 times a month visit my mother... :?

I'm sorry to hear that Dave. These situations are terrible for all involved and I hope you and your brother can work things out.

Faced a similar situation with my Gran when she passed away. As I live over 300 miles away and have no car it wasn't practical to see her very often so I phoned every week. One week I found out she hadn't been able to get out of bed, doctor called e.t.c. but dad and my aunt were all there to make sure she was okay. She was 96 and had had similar in the past so I wasn't that worried. Next week when I phone I got my aunt who said it was just a matter of waiting.
I was shocked and furious with my Dad who had, I thought, given the impression that it was something she'd get over. I was wrong obviously and he was very upset that I was upset. Families eh.
When she did eventually pass on she was at home and surrounded by as much of the family who could be there which I think was what she would have wanted.

Anyway, I hope you manage to get over to say your goodbyes and patch things up with your brother. These things happen and when they do you just have to make the best of the situation you find yourself in.

All the best.

Planning to go over next weekend. Need to talk to my boss, trying to get a long weekend, but I don't have any holiday entitlement, hoping they will give compassionate leave...

Nope, it's not just you.

I'm still trying to find my way back to the normal universe, the one I was born into.

You see, at some point I think we slipped into a parallel universe where George W Bush became POTUS. In the proper one, Al Gore won the 2000 US Presidential election, and the world is as normal as it used to be back in the 1990s.

If anyone finds a way back, please let me know. I'm dying to see what New Labour has really been doing these past nine years.

Have some paracetamol he said

Apparently, a couple of ordinary parecetamol and a strong cup of (decent) coffee is the same as many of the strongest non-prescription pain killers you can get. If you look at the ingredients, you'll see caffeine there, so why not enjoy a nice cup of Java with a lower strength pill or two?

I learned that from a proper pharmacist. They're often worth their weight in medication, and less trying than visiting the quack for minor issues.

Not long got back from the hospital, where the wife is recovering from her surgery. She is still in a lot of pain, but the nurses are working on that and we're all just happy that she got through it OK.
