Oh FFS. It's been well known that the Pill has a risk of DVTs and that there are guidelines to follow in whom to be cautious and who should avoid the Pill. Basically if you're old or fat or have a family history.

Hold on doesn't age also act as its own contraceptive? ;)

But (my understanding is that) the newer versions aren't just used as a contraceptive, and can be used to treat a range of hormone-based things, and as CW said there are guidelines to reduce the risk further.

Also being sedentary increases the risk of DVT. Fortunately as a bloke I only have to worry about flying and inactivity to increase my risks.

It's been years, I'm 28, when playing Civilisation 4, I still get infuriated by RANDOM SPAWNING [LIFTED] BARBARIANS.

I'm sorry I spend 73 turns setting up a nice contain of warriors along a coastline for what SHOULD BE THE WORLD'S SAFEST SETTLEMENT BUILD and then *pop* oh look a barbarian with somehow better military technology than the Independence Day aliens at 2500 BC is there to show me how bad I am at the game and how risky it was.

No, it's a [LIFTED] coastline, I explored it all, unless they evolved from fish since I was last there their appearance is a miracle. i swear strategy is a [LIFTED] illusion in that game, I remember now why I initially uninstalled it all those moons ago. Don't let anyone tell you that it's just a game and I shouldn't get wound up about it; it's serious.

I play civ 5 mainly now because I am used to it. It takes time. There are some oddities but once you know them you can cope.

In Civ 4 barbarians can spawn in any square covered by the fog of war, even if you've explored said square one or two turns previously. PITA but there you go.
I've never seen any actually land in a boat although they do appear if there is a boat in the vicinity.

Barbarians in Civ V I found to be more irritating as you actually need to find and squash their settlements otherwise they just keep spamming out of them rather than just kill the individual units.
I've got 4 and 5 and I'm still not sure about 5 tbh. Any unit being able to cross the water is just stupid IMHO.

Foods containing chilli and are supposed to be "spicy". I've been to Nandos and find the "Hot" rating on food to be spicy but the "Fiery hot" rating just tastes bitter/sour without any spiciness/heat. I was content with that until today when I had Heinz "Fiery" baked beans. Not an ounce of heat but just a bitter taste. Think I'll stick to using black pepper in my baked beans.

I find that chilli is over used these days. It seems that instead of using imagination to make interesting flavours, fashion and sloth dictates throwing in some chilli instead.

I'm not a fan of hot food. I fine with flavour, taste, but if it hurts, burns etc. I avoid it (food should not hurt you). I'm Ok with mustard, because the heat sensation goes away pretty quickly, but curry, chilli and things of that ilk linger, and the more you eat, the worse it gets as it just builds up.

I completely agree with you, Paul. Over the last year I've looked at a few different dieting books, and they all seem to suggest that adding chilli to bland things = flavoursome loveliness. The same with most TV chefs at the moment...

I really like chilli. The problem a lot of people have is not knowing HOW to use it.

In my last house I made a chilli and I put something like 5 or 6 different chillies in it. Scotch bonnet amongst others. My housemate (who always used to annoyingly comment on my food while only ever eating ready meals) said something along the lines of "what have you done that for? You've ruined it now. I could never eat anything with that many chillies in".

I offered him a taste when it was done and he said it was the best chilli he'd ever had.

Ok, prob a bad example, it being chilli and all, but the same is true for other foods too.

I agree that chilli is sometimes over used but if done well it can add the flavour of the chilli instead of just the spicyness (heh, spicyness isn't a word. Neither is spiciness).

I tend to use Dave's Temporary Insanity pepper sauce in my cooking. Not much. Not enough to burn your mouth. Just enough to give some heat and flavour. Added to baked beans it can be delicious without being too spicy. I don't always want food that's too spicy and agree that a lot of food is ruined by virtue of it being too spicy.

Doesn't chilli also have beneficial metabolic affects too? Possibly why the diet brands like to stick them in.
