Am I the only one that doesn't get this comment? Seems in very poor taste to me.

I think he tried to say that doctors are lazy and uncaring. Seem very crude to me :S

Glad I'm not the only one. I must say the Doctors and nurses I came in to contact with recently were all fantastic. I don't know how they do the jobs they do and credit to them.

As with almost all areas of life, we've found them to be a very mixed bag, from the very fine to the truly atrocious, with a fair smattering in between. On average though, the nurses we've encountered have generally been top notch, it's the Doctors where there have been more issues.

I didn't get it initially either. When I was on-call at hospital eg at night, it would be so busy I almost never had time to have a break even for just a toilet break. Consequently by the time the morning came round, my bladder would be fit to bursting. I learnt to have a huge meal before I started because I never got a chance to even drink a sip of water. Even now in primary care, the busyness means I don't even five minutes to think/rest and the days are longer than in hospital.

My comment about DNR being renamed stems from a public misunderstanding of the situation along with the usual media frenzy. "Do not resuscitate" comes across as a harsh order, and is frequently misinterpreted as leaving someone to deteriorate and die rather than what it actually means: if your heart stops beating, we won't do CPR. We will still give fluids, pain relief, antibiotics etc - everything else even chemotherapy/radiotherapy etc. Given that the public impression of CPR comes basically from shows like Casualty where there's something like 100% success rate means that people have unrealistic expectations of outcomes. Sometimes it's better to let someone die a peaceful death with their loved ones than send them off half-naked, tubes everywhere, with broken ribs etc.

I will say that I've come across fabulous staff - that's everyone from doctors, nurses but also HCAs, porters etc. I've also come across a few workshy staff and my own experience has been more with nurses than doctors. More often than not, there's underlying issues that no one will know about.

I knew what your comment was referring to. My Mum asked for DNR but the day before she died they actually ignored it when she had 2 cardiac arrests so they could keep her alive long enough for me to get to the hospital. She was at Southend and I live in London so it's nearly an hours drive. I'm glad they did as I was with her when she died.

Also when they take someone off life support it's not really dramatic like in the movies. They actually mimicked what would happen in real life by bringing her oxygen levels down and bringing her off the steroids so she passed away gradually & naturally.

Oh, the FAIL... Been trying to sort out a Tesco Direct order for well over a month, today they phoned out of the blue with a withheld number and funnily enough I didn't answer it. Email says they'll call back...

Then there's a knock at the door forcing me to hurriedly get dressed only to find out it's some twat from Airtricity or whatever the fcuk they're called. Not happy.

Now Lovefilm have just sent me a pirate DVD. As in copied. Complete with their own barcode sticker on it :x

I'm not back at work until the 18th (just the way it worked out). And it's just as well, if I'd come back from work to today's continuing level of FAIL I'd have been locked up

Looks like I'm going to be here fairly late tonight, and in again early tomorrow morning when I was meant to be on holiday/at hospital. Ho hum. Just been one of those days where nothing has quite fallen into place quite right...

Yes the latest upgrade is pants. I want to look for the schedules and it is now well hidden. I found them but it is so much work to show them.

What kind of useless idiots have they got working in the laundry here? Yesterday they lost my T-shirt, today they've lost my entire laundry bag.

The laundry monsters usually only eat socks. This is a worrying development indeed. :D
