Oh absolutely, there are great apps for iOS and I know a lot of people do use their iPad for image and video editing.

What I was referring to was Window's multi-tasking. I may be wrong, but I thought iOS apps were all designed to run full-screen. Windows Apps have the ability to also run as a vertical "snapped" window 320 pixels wide. Skype is the first App that comes to mind, or media player; running to one side and still leaving plenty of room for other apps to run in a window with more visible area than an iPad has full screen.

I don't imagine you'll see many of these being used on the go, but it's small enough to fit in a suit case for travelling. It's small enough to move easily around the house and use on the coffee table. It's a sensible size for people who don't need a powerful desk top PC. And it's a sensible pixel density for a device that size.

I'm yet to be convinced that function will take off to be honest with you. I can see the value with Skype but (IMO) people tend to work differently with tablets to desktop PCs. Tablets seem more 'task focusing' somehow. Attention grabbing, you might say. I think the majority of the time the majority of tablet users will find themselves completing one task at a time, even if the device itself is capable of multitasking. I'm prepared to be proved wrong though, we'll have to see what happens when/if the function to split the display becomes widespread.

As an aside I think we need a new word other than 'multitask' - all tablets can multitask, it's just most of them so far have only displayed the interface for one task at a time and given limited 'notification' ability to the rest. I'd probably describe that windows function as 'multi-interation' rather than multitasking. However I intuitively hate 'multi-interacting' as a word.

Um, the photo in the article doesn't make it look very easy to be honest with you. If you're the manly father figure of the family may be, but she looks like she's having problems and a child certainly couldn't carry it.

It's definitely a 'post PC' device, no doubt about that. I actually always liked the original 'surface' concept where it was built into the table, I think that's a better idea than dragging a hulking screen around with you. What would actually be my ideal though is if we were able to make large 'dumb' touchscreens, which could be fitted into the wall in every room in the house, with the actual computery parts in a wirelessly connected central server. The output of which you could 'throw' onto the screen in the room you're in (or maybe even have it follow you automatically using RFID sensing or something). Every one in the family could have their own session on the server with constant saved state.

Mount one of those Lenovo jobs in every room but put all the gubbins in a HTPC box in a study or in the living room and link them all together via 802.11N or better. All the screens just run some touch-enabled variant of RDP. It's the future!

(actually, that's an idea that has genuine legs. You should see the prices some people pay for multi-room A/V installations. Imagine how much people would pay for a house-wide 'smart screen' system...)

The thing is, the "computery part" is probably the cheapest component!

Given the number of games which now have real world controllers or add ons, I would be surprised if GW weren’t interested in a tablet or surface-top playing system, with effects, terrain, piece tracking, etc..

The idea of a 20" tablet, let alone one that nearly rivals an A2 piece of paper, is, frankly, idiotic. It just tells me that some people really do not feel comfortable outside of the screen/mouse/keyboard form factor.

There needs to be decent broadband for it to be available as a download service. I think that OLED will be cheaper by then, so will we all be buying 4k OLED TV's?
