It's been snowing all day! We're officially snowed in We barely managed to get my parents away from the house after lunch and that by dint of digging them out, then pushing them backwards off the drive into the lane, and then up from the lane to the road. Since then it's snowed continuously and although I haven't actually measured it looks like we had another 4 inches or so overnight and about 8 today. I've been sweeping off the measuring table to allow it to re-accumulate for each additional measurement and at the moment it looks like a cake! We have a massive snow-dune across the back garden where the wind is eddying and drifts are above knee-height. We're not going to work tomorrow, it's supposed to keep snowing until at least 11am, but hopefully, if it stops, we're going to try and shovel a path from the driveway up to the road and grit it so we can get out and do a spot of shopping. According to my folks the B road up to the A5 is passable (or was at lunchtime today) so we just have to try and get out of the village. Then we can hole up here for as long as we have to.

Heavy snow overnight. Been out shoveling snow for the last hour... The draw back of having a corner house, I have to also clear the pavement along the side of the house!
The drive was white again, by the time I had finished.

We had our snow yesterday. We probably had a good 12cm in all. It's moved up north now. We'd stocked up on provisions in the middle of last week, so we can last until Wednesday or Thursday this week if we have to. As I type, the sun is trying to burn off the cloud. However, I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning. This means several things: (1) I have to dig the car out from the snow drift; (2) the surgery car park will be closed; (3) the roads around the surgery won't be gritted; (4) there's no public parking in the area any more. I'm wondering if I should park in the Co-op car park and trudge up the hill, seeing as how I can top up on milk and deli when I get back.

Bah. I had my car parked outside my house, which is a never gritted or cleared road that's a right pain to get out of when there's snow on the ground. If there's going to be snow, I park further away on a road that's easier to get out of. By yesterday afternoon the snow had pretty much melted. So I thought 'nah I'll leave it where it is'. Get up this morning to a couple of inches of snow on the ground . Can't get the car out. 'working from home' it is then. Public transport tomorrow probably.

Well I made it into work. Left fifteen minutes earlier and despite going only 20mph, it took me around the same amount of time as it normally does.
They're still planning on closing the surgery earlier so everyone can get home but TBH I don't want the hassle that I had on Friday with everyone trying to get home so plan to stay here for the day as normal.

I have to drive to Manchester tomorrow, but can't get the Alfa out and don't fancy taking the jeep, so having to hire a car for the trip.

Considering that it was supposed to snow here all day yesterday, we only got about a cm fall in the evening. Still it appears very few people on my street have used their cars this morning. Only a handful of blank spaces are visible. Some look like they haven't moved all week.

Cleaned drive last night from about 15cm snow - this morning another 3-4cms so cleaned that off.
Getting on to main road was "interesting" but once on main roads no problems till got to the village where I work where it became "interesting" again!
So glad got all-weather tyres on the car - good move.

It looks quite "interesting" in my corner of the village, although I can see a few tracks so people have got in and out. I have a lift organised to take me to the hospital soon so it's good to know the main roads are passable. I just hope he can get out of his village, but I'd have expected a call by now if he knew it wasn't possible. I dislike the snow a lot. We didn't even get a bin collection today.

As I drove to the doctor's today, the snow ploughs hadn't been out, so it was thick snow on all roads, including the dual-carriageway. Didn't take much longer than usual, but the roadworks caused the usual tailback and the usual traffic jam in Osnabruck.
I took the shortcut up the steep hill by the Uni, which saved me about 20 - 30 minutes sitting in traffic, a little slippery, as it hadn't been treated, but still passable. Glad of the gear-lock on the automatic, to stop the car automatically changing up the box, really useful for coming down slippery hills, locked it in second gear and it rolled down the hill at about 20mph.
Only problem was the snow turned to ice on the wiper blades, so they became increasingly useless!
Coming back home, the hill still hadn't been cleared and the DHL driver had problem coming out of the Uni. The main B68 (equivalent to an A road in the UK) had been cleared by the time I got out of Osnabrück. In Bramsche, they hadn't cleared any of the roads, so there was a lot of controlled drifting out of junctions.
When I got home, there was another 5cm or so on the drive and pavement outside the house, so I had to clear that first... It is still snowing at the moment, so I will have to probably do it one more time this evening, then again tomorrow morning, when I get up.

Postponed the meeting, which I'm glad about, shame my dad won't be able to transfer his flight though, so that's money down the drain. Rather that than risk spending a night on the motorway though!

Left work about 8pm, and I had to scrape ice off the car! Beautifully clear night here - no cloud cover so it's freezing. Proceeded to leave work in a slightly sideways wheelspin sort of fashion. Which was nice. Tombolt knows what I'm talking about.

Snowed again today. Working from home again tomorrow. We managed to dig out one car so Red can make the attempt to get to work tomorrow, we made a trial trip to the shops which was ok-ish, but our road is by far the biggest problem. I dread to think what it'll be like when it's frozen again in the morning. More snow forecast for Thursday. Let's hope not!

Just the smallest amount of snow here today. However none of the existing stuff has really melted in my street or the few surrounding.
We have auditions for prospective new drummers for the band this week. Unfortunately it won't be happening unless our guitarist is no longer snowed in. Also need to use our Yo! Sushi 40% off vouchers before the weekend.
