Well when it goes to court he can hardly claim he didn't do it.

Will the police arrest him for assault?

Also could he be deported as a Belgian thug? That might bugger up his career if he can never come back to the UK for matches.

Having not watched the game. Why is the ball boy on the floor at the start of that clip?

he's deliberately trying to stop the chelsea player from getting the ball

Indeed, but that's no justification for what the player did in response.

The obvious comparison is to what Eric Cantona famously did, for which he was prosecuted. In this case you'd have to assume some sort of prosecution would be forthcoming, or there will be a proper tabloid firestorm. The Mail at least will do their nut.

I'm not sure we actually can deport an EU national. Or at least, if we can, I'm not sure there's anything that stops him just coming straight back in again.

Once convicted the laws could allow us to refuse entry. I know that Chris Brown and Snoop Dogg have been stopped for their criminal records but they are American but the principle could apply to EU nationals.

But equally it might not. US nationals can't claim passage under the EU freedom of movement regulations.

South Wales Constabulary (the match was being played in Swansea) have announced they are 'investigating' the incident and are interviewing the ball boy. Personally, given the footage shown to millions of people nationally, I can't see how much 'investigating' is required, but anyway..

US citizens might have an automatic visa waiver program.

It would appear it was a case of the ballboy being a twat (the Beeb were reporting that he'd tweeted post match that he'd be time-wasting) and a football player being an even bigger twat.
