So in the end I got bored of sitting around and got a shovel out and cleared all the snow from the pavement in our street (for reasons too long to go into, there's only one side to our street). Took a while, even with a proper snow shovel. Then put a layer of road salt down which will hopefully stop it icing up overnight.
Seem to have tweaked my back a bit doing it, but not too badly. Neighbour down the street bought me a box of 'celebrations' chocolates as a thank you. I'm diabetic but didn't like to refuse, so assuming I make it into work tomorrow, chocs will be distributed.
I think that's a win overall, but I'm not entirely sure.

Well done you. We used to do it a lot in Scotland when it snowed - there was a general shrug and we'd get the shovels out to clear it, put some grit down and get on with it. This doesn't seem to happen now, or am I imagining it?

Not arf. I nearly lost the back end of the jeep into the gatepost coming back from work today. If this weather goes on any longer, I'll have to think about doing something about the icy entrance to the yard as every time I leave or come back I'm just creating more ice!

It's been snowing here constantly since about 4PM. There's now more snow on the ground than there was last weekend and there's no sign of it stopping. I've got an internet shopping grocery delivery due in about an hour. I rather suspect it may not make it. Beans on toast it is!

It's been raining here for the last couple of hours - the snow we had on Friday lasted about four days. No trace of it now. It is still bitterly cold though.

Just been outside, the snow is over 4" deep all over (i.e. on the flat not in a drift). It's also covered my Sky dish to the extent that, combined with the signal attenuation from the snow in the air, I have no satellite signal at all. It's freeview only for me for a while! First world problems, I know...
The grocery delivery bloke has, unsurprisingly, just phoned to say he isn't going to make it. I don't blame him in the least. I told him that my order included an AA emergency snow shovel (seriously, it did) and he was welcome to use it if he needed it to get back to the depot or to get home. I now have to reschedule or cancel. Given the amount of perishable stuff in the order and the likelihood of anyone being able to deliver it this weekend, I think cancelling is the better option.
Strangely enough the BBC hasn't felt it necessary to schedule a half hour 'Snow apocalypse' news special on BBC 1. It can't be anything to do with the fact last time the snow hit the south and this time it's hitting the north, surely?

Because it's supposed to be grim up north, right?

Actually, the snow hides all the grimness in a lovely meringue-esque white cloud. I can barely see the satanic mills through the soot-blackened windows of my hovel any more.

Forecast of sleet and snow but will it settle?

Just heard the weather bloke on the radio say 'you may need to be aware of the remaining lieing snow when driving'. Er... Otherwise, this morning is lovely. Genuinely my favourite kind of day.

I didn't do an order this week just in case. I've been baking instead, although the only fresh veg I have now is one and a half tomatoes. Thankfully the freezer is still stocked. There's no real snow here though for the last couple of days so I needn't have worried.

About 2" of new snow here last night.
However it's nearly all melted this morning.

Rained last night. The sun's warmth has more or less dried it all up now though.
