Apparently the freezing point of brine is Zero in Fahrenheit, and the interval between water freezing and boiling is 180 degrees. We used to like numbers like 180 because they're easily divisible. We still use this number to represent Pi radians for example.

So, basically you're saying you don't like Pi

I love pi!

What bothers me is that the solution was ice, water and salt in a 1:1:1 ratio. It may as well have been water, granite, dachshunds.
It's nonsense. It doesn't mean anything. Celcius makes sense - 0 is water becoming ice, 100 is water boiling.
I use water all the time. I am familiar with it both frozen and boiling.

It's an interesting choice for sure. Not as arbitrary sounding as the second of time though - now defined as the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom.

And of course, we still use the sesquidecimal intervals of 3600 seconds to an hour, which is 180 x 20.

Technically, only at sea level.

Other than that, I'm with you. Fahrenheit seems bizarre. Perhaps we should all switch the Kelvin and be done with it.

While Kelvin makes sense in that zero is zero, the obvious place to start, the interval is still rather arbitrarily defined in terms of water as 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point.

I am the same - some things are imperial and some metric e.g. Distances day to day is in miles, feet, and inches unless I am diving (meters) or DIY (mm) although with DIY i will say a I need 12 feet of 21mm x 6mm board

No, it's my job. I never ever used Fahrenheit until I started working offshore. And that's the only place I use it. Even I'm not old enough to use Fahrenheit at home.

I'm used to F at home because that is what the 'stat and room thermometer read in when I grew up. So I know that 60 - 70 is comfortable, while 80 is much too hot for me.

I can not remember the boiling point of water or any other chemistry in Fahrenheit, because we only used C at school.

I have tooth ache so I went to the dentist for the first time in far too many years. 5 minutes of poking and 3 x-rays later, she can't find any problems.

So why does it hurt so much? Aarghh!

Have you checked the time? Maybe it's 2:30.

On had quite bad sensitivity after having done fillings. After trying a few brands I found that special Colgate toothpaste (I forget the exact branding) got rid of it.

Constant pain or intense pain then a break?

It comes an goes, and very intense shooting right up into my head. I've found I can numb it with a good Scotch. I was expecting a root canal, maybe an absess. I've never had tooth ache before so I wasn't entirely sure, but it felt bad!

Have you still got your wisdom teeth?

I'm putting my money on an infection near your back teeth, it's usually your wisdom teeth that are the problem as you can't get a brush right to the back of them to clean all the food out. If your gums are sore or inflamed (especially at the back) then you'll need antibiotics from the Dentist.

I should point out it feels like it's my front tooth that hurts, and I don't have wisdom teeth. No swelling where they would come either, and no sore gums generally. I'm not wise enough for wisdom teeth lol. If they do come through I'll probably need them out because they'll be sticking into my throat!

I'm seeing her again in the morning so I'll see how that goes. If there's still no joy, I'll probably knock it out on a door knob or something!

If it was an abscess you'd expect it to show up on the x-rays. I had one a couple of years ago and the symptoms were similar to what you're getting but it was pretty clear on the x-rays that it was there. There is a kind of 'what else can it be?' sense to it though.
