How the mighty have fallen. clickyI know the 4890 has dropped to around £150, but this is still a bargain.

I wouldn't quite say how it's fallen. Surely this makes it just even better?
Still, nice find...one of my 4870's has finally bitten the dust, tempted by this now....dammit!!

Wow! That is a good price, I brought the exact card a few months ago from ebuyer for £148 but that’s the technology market for you (particularly the PC component market).

I meant fallen in price. I have a 1GB 4870, fantastic card!

How did you kill it!? On another note, I've just bought "Railworks" through Steam, and my 4870 struggles in places! Sometimes just 6fps! Time to start saving me thinks, gfx first, then new mobo and CPU...

I'm not sure if EA still publish it. I know that they did the original ("Rail Simulator"), but the new Railworks is steam-dependent (i.e. you have to use it with Steam, whether you buy the Steam version or the DVD, much like HL2).

Haven't a clue, really, it just won't work properly, red pixels fly all over the screen, actually there's a thread in here about it, I reckon it could have been due to excessive heat. Bit of a PITA though 'cause now I have a spare 4870 waterblock Oh well, I may be tempted by this and make use of it...

Just upgraded my 4870 to the GTX 285 - runs quite a bit quieter and can run BOINC.
See my trailer <cough>

Definite no to the first question. As for the second, depends on the game. The HD4870X2 will blow the GTX285 out of the water in games that can utilise both GPUs. In those that can't, the GTX285 may have the edge.

Interestingly....
I priced up an i7 system on PCSpecialist just this morning. The system with a 512 Mb 4870 was £2 dearer than one with a 1Gb 4870 !
Figure that one out.
