Some stuff

Basically put, when Three's 4G network goes live, everyone who as a Three 3G contract will be upgraded to a 4G contract at exactly the same terms. Assuming you have a 4G compatible device, you'll just get faster internet. For the same money.

You hear that EE? That's your market advantage. It's tied to a horse that's just bolted from the stable. Good luck closing the stable door.

The only question for me, is my iPhone 5 LTE compatible or not? Though I am not that worried as I do not use 3G that much.

Interestingly, in the PC Pro article about the same story, it would appear that 3 intend to pigback their intial 4G offering off the EE network.

That's as it should be. You pay for a data allowance. I don't see why you should pay more because you might be able to get it a little bit faster in a few areas.

Thanks for that. I do not think that it will be a major problem for me. I rarely use 3G as it is but it will be nice when I go away.

Stiff like this makes me glad I'm a Three customer.

Now that I am one I would agree. Years ago I was not such a fan, with their high termination fees.

Three have updated their site to cover 4G issues

I honestly do not have any need for more than 6megs (HSPA) to my phone. That's not much short of what I get on my ADSL at home. I could stream iPlayer on the phone while my tethered laptop syncs Boxdrop and email, torrents a "Linux Distro" and watch a youtube all at the same time as listening to a radio channel and browsing the web while a friend checks Bookface on his tethered iPad. Or whatever.

As I've said before, the real problem is contention... assuming you have coverage at all in the first place, you very rarely get the headline speed. And then there's the data cap, in one form or other.

I have done a speed test and I get 25 Mbps at home and that is double my broadband. As my contract allows tethering of my iPad it is perfect for the very rare occasions of me needing it while out and about. Nothing for me to complain about.

Yes, but as it gets more popular, that will drop. I suspect you're one of the very few using that connection at the moment.

+1
I'm always happy with 3G or HSPA. Just a shame they seem to be uncommon away from city centres.
What 4G offers me (or it will when the government auction of the lower frequencies) is not speed, but better signals in buildings.

I'm now learning just how good t-mobile were for data coverage, slightly regretting going to giffgaff. It's all well and good having unlimited data, but not much use if you can't use it.

Bizarrely it depends on what app I test it with. My letting agent is also on Three but literally only got halve my speed when we did a simultaneous test.
