Wouldn't you be better off with two devices and tethering them? That way you could have a small phone most of the time and then a larger screen when you need that extra space.

At the moment, I use the phone for maybe 5 minutes a month for telephoning. The "smart" side gets used for maybe 10 minutes a day, at the moment - excluding listening to podcasts / audio books. Having 2 devices would be a waste of money.

Well, HTC have the answer for you. what you need to make your 'bigger is always better' phablet really useful is.. another phone, that looks like it fell out of the 1990's, that can only function by talking the the phone you just bought that turned out to be as ergonomic as an ironing board.

I actually think with the 'phablet' devices becomming increasingly bigger (5.9" one shown off by a Korean manufacturer) this isn't such a bad idea. Whilst I like the idea of a Note II for example I just couldn't bring myself to hold it to my ear in public

I'm seriously thinking of just using a Nexus 7 and a "dumb" phone to tether to when on the go. I do find my HTC quite cumbersome, but still a bit too small for my fat fingers.
