Mine is a bit too big for the phone side, too small on the "smart" side (Galaxy SIII).

A Nexus 7/ 7" Windows RT tablet with phone facilities and a bluetooth headset would suit me better.

Wouldn't you be better off with two devices and tethering them? That way you could have a small phone most of the time and then a larger screen when you need that extra space.

At the moment, I use the phone for maybe 5 minutes a month for telephoning. The "smart" side gets used for maybe 10 minutes a day, at the moment - excluding listening to podcasts / audio books. Having 2 devices would be a waste of money.

I can see that for you it might not be practical. I use my phone, as a phone very little but the smart side is used a lot more. Though most of the time I use the iPad rather than the iPhone.

Is your expensive new smartphone actually a bit too large? Do you feel a bit foolish actually making calls with it? Are the number of people who shout 'Oi! Dom Jolly!' at you in the street getting you down?

Well, HTC have the answer for you. what you need to make your 'bigger is always better' phablet really useful is.. another phone, that looks like it fell out of the 1990's, that can only function by talking the the phone you just bought that turned out to be as ergonomic as an ironing board.

I actually think with the 'phablet' devices becomming increasingly bigger (5.9" one shown off by a Korean manufacturer) this isn't such a bad idea. Whilst I like the idea of a Note II for example I just couldn't bring myself to hold it to my ear in public

If you extend the logic then you could easily combine the iPhone, iPod Touch iPad and iPad mini ranges into one and have different sizes, and capabilities. So you could have three sizes and differing wifi or 3G/4G capabilities and storage.

I'm seriously thinking of just using a Nexus 7 and a "dumb" phone to tether to when on the go. I do find my HTC quite cumbersome, but still a bit too small for my fat fingers.
