"Would we like to sell everything at full price and not have a used game market? Sure," he added, "But I think the used game market's a little like any other kind of market where it creates liquidity. The fact is, that liquidity benefits us in some fashion. So if someone goes in and trades in a game, there's a good chance they're going to buy another one of our games. And so if there's a liquid market, I think that that's not a bad thing at all."

Which is what we have been saying for ages. Shame that so few in the games industry seem to appreciate. The comment from Gamestop is to be expected when their business model will no longer be viable if second hand games die out. Though not having a retail market might actually slow down sales to teenagers.

The industry needed something to believe when they couldn't flog the piracy horse any more. Remember when it was killing PC gaming?

I never thought that piracy was a problem with games. The last thing that end users want is some pirate game that may contain trojans or viruses. I only have legal games on any of my computers or consoles for just that reason. They may be new or second hand but they are all legal.

I cut my buying of PC games because of the hardware requirements mean that you could have a game that would not play on your PC. That is not a problem with consoles.

The Next Xbox Has Mandatory Kinect, Game-Swapping and New Controllers, According To Leaked Info

http://kotaku.com/5982986/we-know-all-a ... ve-got-one

If true, it seems well thought out. Though motion sensing is nonsense short of virtual reality, and even then you'll probably be loathe to play after a day at work. I mean if kids' Wiis and Kinnects are gathering dust now, what hope is there for working adults throwing shapes around over the console's life?

I am not sure whether the always on kinect will be popular. I suspect that people will cover the lenses most of the time. No mention of the block on pre owned games, though I suspect that will not be made public until it is discovered by the public.

I suspect the 'block' has been a mixture of companies testing the water and websites looking traffic, but we'll see.

They may be testing the water but they may simply ignore it at press on regardless. Then the problem will be that the first console that tries it will dead. It might have the block removed but will people trust them again?

How do second hand games work now? For example, I bought my copy of Skyrim on DVD but it's registered on Steam. I could gift the game to a friend on Steam without even giving them the disk, but I don't know if I could somehow re-register it to the DVD again for re-sale?

For most games there is no registration or one time code. The only game that I have that has it is Starcraft 2, but since I do not plan to get rid of it I have no problems with it. Though the game constantly needs online access to the Blizzard servers even though I have never played via the server.

The registration process didn't stop Skyrim being quite popular.

I think for a few games it will be a non issue, like Skyrim, WoW, Starcraft. For most games it will be a big problem.

Alleged PS4 controller photo

I seriously doubt it'll look that cheap - that looks like a 3rd party job. I'd hope the sticks aren't that far apart too.

UK retailers want Wii U price cut

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39 ... price-cut/

That's actually worse than I thought it would be - they're wasting time while Sony alone is about to make waves.
