The only questions that matter are: 1. When's the next Gran Turismo launching for the platform? 2. When's the next Grand Theft Auto launching for the platform?

Years away for both if history's an indicator... though you should see PS3 GTA at some point this year. Maybe.

I wonder if they could be converted? Most games are probably written using an emulator or compiler so they simply recompile for the new machine. This would only show where the problems lie. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

Diablo 3 will be PS3/4, and I doubt it'll be the only game like that. The PS2 was the same.

I suspect that they would have to make the game for both consoles. There will be very few PS4 for quite some time so even if everyone with a PS4 bought a copy it would still lose money for some time.

PS4 won't support DualShock 3 http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39 ... ntrollers/Bit of a confused message there, as you'd expect from Sony... The only thing I truly like about the new pad (though it's not totally finalised, link below) is the headphone jack and concave sticks! The triggers are better than before, but still look like they'd be crap for shooters. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39 ... ear-final/

PS4 games to cost '$0.99-$60' - Tretton http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39 ... /#commentsI'd like to think so son, your market's changed medium-term at the very least.

I originally thought the lack of support for the DS3 was to ensure maximum invome - you would have to buy all-new peripherals (a bit like Apple and their connector changes). But I recall some patent or deal or something where the tech had been licensed and was due to be renewed. It may be that the controller will work but not the rumble bit.

Rumble's a nonsense anyway; most games don't use it/enact it in any meaningful way! If it comes to it, and that's a big if, I'd be looking to use the DS3 over their social/light-up third-party-looking doodah I reckon... and they'd wanna make current headsets of all descriptions work with the PS4, though I fully expect them to fcuk that up or try to rip people off.

The original controller that came with the PS3 was called the SixAxis controller and had no rumble at all. When initially questioned about this, Sony replied that rumble was a 'last generation feature'. It turns out there is a company (can't remember the name) who have a patent on the kind of rumble Sony had used in their PS2 pads and that company was in dispute with Sony at the time the PS3 launched, so no rumble. Once the dispute was resolved, rumble was added into the pad and it was sold as the Dual Shock 3. I can't think of a technical reason why a DS3 wouldn't work with a PS4 - after all the Move and Move navigation controllers do and the DS3 could pretend to be a move navigation controller. They obviously do want some peripheral sales... however I suspect extra pad sales have been on the decline for years, as 'sofa multiplayer' has given way to 'online multiplayer'. In a console as online focussed as the PS4, I expect the number of games that prioritise online multiplayer over local multiplayer will grow and thus the sales of pads as extras will continue to fall. IIRC, none of the games that were shown at the launch looked like they'd be valid games for sofa multiplayer. Pretty much the only games these days that do do it are fighting games and sports games. Sports games particularly are big business but even then play has migrated away from local to online, with 11 v 11 online FIFA games (for example) becoming increasingly popular.

I was chatting to my work colleague today about the ps4 and it occurred to me that I can't believe how advanced the ps3 was for its time, not having an hd telly, I still haven't got the best of it. This is a machine I bought in 2006 iirc and it does 1080p, 3d bluray, streams all of my media wirelessly and has all all of the catchup channels on it (not that I can use catchup tv where I live). The only thing I don't use it for is to play games. Other than moar gamez that I don't have time to play any more, it's hard to see what the ps4 could possibly offer me.

Think of all the social aspects you'll never even try, never mind use!

I think I can officially say I'm getting old as none of that appeals to me in the slightest! Living as rurally as I do, anything that involves the Internet has to be forgotten about.

Believe me, it's not just you! Sony wants you to upload your entire life, and unfortunately some kids inevitably will.
