I think it's less hurtful to call someone a rude word than it is to explain why you don't like them in words a 9 year old would fully understand. But that's not even relevant. Why would she even read it? It wasn't addressed to her, so even if she's on Twitter the only way she'd find out is if other people tell her. I wouldn't let my 9 year old girl follow them on Twitter, would you? My problem with the tweet is that, as they say in their apology, it was a "humorless comment". It just wasn't funny. Very true. Yes its value plummets after a day or so.
