well my hotmail account has been closed. it was opened in 1998 and has been my main email account for all that time. but they have changed it to outlook and use skype instead of messenger
they also seem to have stopped pop downloads as i could not get any connection to hotmail using several email programs so have opened a yahoo account and spent the best part of 2 days changing email details on everyone of my accounts
i also have a gmail account which i use as a backup/spare account
so after many long years with hotmail it is now a sad farewell ...

Still using mine, I switched to outlook.com back during the beta phase. I've never used the pop connection, I have used it with Outlook since 1998.
I haven't used msn messenger for several years now, but it is now integrated into Skype, which I use more often, so the change hasn't really changed anything for me.

Was any reason you didnt just migrate to outlook. It would have saved you two days of changing stuff.

I'm still using my old Hotmail address. It's my oldest address, my MS passport and my MSN login. Basically, everything Microsoft related. I don't mind the new "Outlook" web interface. It works fine, just business as usual. I don't need or want to change my Hotmail, so I won't need to spend 2 days telling people. I do hate Skype though. I don't understand why MS dumped MSN when it was so much better in every way. I hated ICQ, Yahoo, GoogleTalk and every other IM I've tried too. MSN was highly polished and just about perfect, at least on Windows. I miss my email notifications too. Oh well, hopefully all their clever developers will fix Skype into something more usable soon. I don't have much choice if they're turning off MSN and my friends have mostly migrated already. If you mean the email client rather than the web service, then there's no Linux port?

I also have a hotmail address from before Microsoft took Hotmail over. I have never used it that much but it has been kept active for all those years.

Yeah, my account is from '96. I have a new outloook.com synonym, but I still give out the hotmail address.

i did move to outlook, thus the move away from it, it just didn’t work for me ... just an added note my wife’s mac system is not working correctly with the new outlook (skype, messenger, etc) so it looks like another move away from hotmail (deceased) ...

I have an outlook and a hotmail address. The technical details are irrelevant for me as I use them as spam accounts. I.e. of I have to provide am email address to sign up for some thing, I use my hotmail address so my main ISP's email address doesn't get loads of adverts etc.
