Hardly surprising. The government want to keep the existing economic model going as long as possible. They are ignoring the fact that we as individuals already have far too much debt. If interest rates were to rise then the numbers of bankruptcies and repossessions will rocket. It is an immense poisoned chalice for which ever government wins the next election.
