Because you are doing 90 in the outside lane, over taking that juggernaut in the middle lane, of course you can't see it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

Google, Android - you suck. For whatever reason, my father can't access his email. Both his phone and the computer. The computer says the password is incorrect, and the phone just won't sync. So, I assume, someone's hacked his account. So we try recovering the password with Google. Now, because I can't specifically remember which date I set up the account for him on, nor the top 5 most popular addresses he sends email to, or any other Google services he may have signed up to, we go to the next level of security, where I'm greeted with: | | | | Quote: Google Account Recovery Service for ___________@gmail.comAt Google, we take security very seriously. We need more information to continue the recovery process, including: Details about your account Your credit card information (you will not be charged, but this helps us verify your account) One of our specialists will then evaluate your information and respond within 3 days. If you choose not to provide this information, you can always start the account recovery process over by re-submitting your claim for free. Please be sure to provide more information than in your previous claim. Service Options This service is free but requires a credit card to verify your identity. Select between our prioritized recovery options * Standard service: Submit your information through an online form and receive a response within 3 days. Phone assistance: Speak with an account specialist via phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a US toll-free number. International calling rates will apply if you are outside the United States. You will receive a response via email within 3 days. Provide details about your account Tell us about your account * Helpful details include: The approximate dates you created and lost access to the account The city and country where you created your account The Google products you used with this account (ex. Android, Gmail, Calendar) The devices you used to access your account (ex. laptops, phones, tablets) Any security features you enabled Any other details that might help prove you own the account Are you able to receive and send new emails on the _____________@gmail.com account? * For example, you might still be able to access email on your mobile device or in a mail client such as Microsoft Outlook. Yes No I don't know Who is your Internet service provider (ISP) or mobile carrier? For example, AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, or Shaw. In some cases, a phone conversation may help us verify account ownership. If you would like to give the Account Recovery Team the option of calling you, please provide the information below. This call will be recorded for quality assurance purposes. Your phone number Choose the best time of day to reach you (all Eastern Standard Time) 9am-1pm ET 1pm-5pm ET | | | | |
I just want a password reset ta much. Also, Android - between us both we couldn't figure where you'd go to edit an email address or it's set up options. Pretty well hidden, it seems. So, tonight, I'm in a [LIFTED] you Google, and your stupid Android OS.

So they've offered you a dozen different ways to recover the account, you've not set up or taken note of any of the recovery details they're constantly nagging you about, and it's somehow their fault?

JJ - have you ever tried to recover a gmail password? You sit through a variety of highly specific questions - date you created the account (I'm sure you know that), the top 5 addresses you correspond with (out of of how many dozens?) and Google do some fancy algorithms to determine whether or not your perception of your account usage matches theirs. Then, when that inevitably fails, you get sent the email I copied and pasted. So you can cheerfully pony up your credit card details, or try the whole merry go round again, but this time think harder.
Frankly, I couldn't tell you when I set up any of my accounts. That's like asking me when I first tried a fried chicken wrap - it's just part of life, nothing noteworthy or unique, and certainly nothing to write down in case at some point in the future some bastard organisation wants to know about it. Maybe they should issue a receipt with instructions that this should be kept in the event your password ceases to function for some unknown reason.

Yes. It's trivial and takes 5 seconds. It really could not be easier. You enter your account name, then enter the recovery address you've set up. It emails you a link to click. If that's unavailable, I think the next option is it texts your mobile. Obviously it only works if you've set it up, but if you haven't then it nags you every time you log in. :edit: here's the recovery email: | | | | Quote: Google Account Recovery <no-reply@accounts.google.com> 00:27 (3 minutes ago) to Jason To initiate the password reset process for your sexybouy69@gmail.com Google Account, click the link below: https://www.google.com/accounts/recover ... sa5ESdggyoIf clicking the link above doesn't work, please copy and paste the URL in a new browser window instead. If you've received this mail in error, it's likely that another user entered your email address by mistake while trying to reset a password. If you didn't initiate the request, you don't need to take any further action and can safely disregard this email. ? Perfectly fine for me from 6am. It's usually slow about 3am when the backups run but apart from usual broadband congestion most of the time it's fast enough.

Some idiot has dug through a water main. It's shown on the website as "3rd party damage".
I can manage without drinking water, but I was planning on making bread. I wonder what it'll be like if I use 100% milk..?

That's not been my experience - I had to answer a variety of questions to apparently prove I was the account owner (setup date etc.), then I got sent the link to my back up account. The quote I supplied was the next step, which asked for credit card details, or return me to the recovery page for another go. Trivial, it is not. I could understand such things if I was attempting it from a new IP address, but I wasn't - I was doing it from the same machine the account was setup on, the only machine (mobile aside) that accesses the account. Try clicking through the link and see what it offers.

Once you click on the link, you get a one-stage password change option, thus: It then logs you in and takes you to the recovery options menu where you can review or change the information: https://accounts.google.com/UpdateAccou ... eryOptionsIf folks haven't already set up something sensible, I suggest you do it now. If you can't remember what you've set, it's probably a good idea to review it. Most accounts have a similar process. I guess maybe it's more complicated if they have reason to believe security has been compromised? Which is probably a good thing. Your email account is probably the most important online password you have, often giving access to many other important accounts. You really really don't want it compromised.

That's funny, because I got directed to a page that contained the text above in my original quote - not a friendly simple password reset. Certainly This all makes me wonder if there's something else going on - I've just tried the link they sent me and I get this.
