I think they're going to struggle to get a proper aerial in that design tbh. I suspect it'll be fine if you're in a first class coverage area but as soon as it gets iffy you're on your own. And GPS will fail as soon as you lose a significant chunk of the sky, like in big city centres with skyscrapers. Plus obviously GPS navigation is useless if you're using the underground. And that's without battery issues - if that thing's going to have a 4G transceiver and a battery built into it, it's going to last about half an hour. Literally the question is how are they going to fit all the hardware for all the things they claim it can do into something the size of an ballpoint pen?
It's a nice idea (but not actually a new one) and the more you think about actual use cases, the more sceptical you have to become. It may work, it may not, but the stuff they've shown already doesn't prove anything either way. We've only seen 'simulations', we haven't seen a demonstration of someone using one live for something most people would want to use it for.

That would be a valid use but the downside is that Google will know your every move and you spam you with ads during long gaps between turns.

Does google track that now with google maps? If not, why would that change?

It might, but in glasses I suspect that it would be called as an app by the OS which would track you. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

This is the worlds largest advertising firm, and you're about to potentially let them know where you are, what you look at and what you choose to record. Assuming this isn't just vapourware.

Had Apple came up with it everybody would have been sh1tting their pants with excitement even before it would be even acknowledged by Apple. Just look at iwatch rumour. But when Google comes up with something it is either copying (if it's any good) or wapourware (if it's not clear)...

Apple are a hardware company that happens to sell software. Yes, they want your money. Google want your money, and all your information so they can sell it. Don't be evil, remember? Google are an advertising company. I used to work in advertising production. As jonbwfc has pointed out, they claim to be able to pack an awful lot into something the size of a Bic biro. A healthy dose of scepticism in the claimed features of this device is warranted, unless there's a battery pack a bit like this that goes with it. So, yes, in my opinion, Google are not your friend and until this is available on the shelf, they can kiss it.

Google provide me with services that I need so I use them. I don't pay for it with money, I pay for it with what you call "all your information" so they can sell it". Yes, I could use other companies instead, like yahoo or even apple for email for example. But you'd be naive to think that the don't do the same thing as google with your information. So I use google as much as I can so my info is not spread around dozens of companies but only one. And at least google might actually push me adds about products that I actually want, since they know so much about me.

The rumoured iWatch is probably because some analyst has seen the Sony Smartwatch and thinks that Apple should have one as well. This is something new from Google but I expect it will remain in beta for years. /s

The bald fact is the tech press have mostly long given up reporting stuff that is actually happening in favour of reporting stuff they claim is about to happen. They get it wrong vastly more often than they get it right and half the time they probably don't believe what they're publishing themselves, it's just for the eyeballs on ads revenue. Anyone placing any store by what most of the tech press say is a fool.

I know where you're coming from (Techradar for instance can be shocking), but at least some of them have multiple sources. At least that's what they claim What I'm interested in especially are these rumours about the 'Nextbox' and used games - Edge of all people seem convinced it won't play 'em, so I'm curious as I agree with you in general about 'shoddy' reporting...

I agree. While I do like to see what is rumoured to be in the next iPhone iPad etc, it is simply for me a matter of will it be useful for me. I did not get the first iPad and waited till the second one when I had a better idea of what I could do with it. Since then I have discovered more things that can be done with the devices and that is simply from the upgrades in apps and new apps rather than the device itself. For example I use Home inventory on my mac and now use the remote app on it for take photos. I do not need a better camera for that or NFC. If I want to scan barcodes or QR codes my camera can do that with the right software. So the hardware is almost irrelevant as to whether I will get one. The extra memory of the iPad is great but for me the retina screen was best of all. So I wait until the Keynotes to actually see what is happening. I treat the rumours as fun but as you say they are almost like a wish list for some people. If you want a phone that has everything and a kitchen sink get an Android phone.
