Microsoft have replaced the "MSIE" string, which identifies the browser to the website as Internet Explorer, with just "IE," meaning host websites won't be able to use their current CSS hacks on IE11. To further ensure IE11 users don't receive an odd (broken) version of the site, Microsoft also included the command "Like Gecko" which instructs the website to send back the same version of the website as they would to Firefox.

They're being haunted by IE6 - so many sites dish up inappropriate sauce regardless of which version of IE you use, that you have to click "view in retarded mode" to get them to work. You can understand why they've done it, especially since this is not a release version - this is an internal developer build not for public use.

What really got me was the reaction to Webkit in the comments. Things like "Webkit is the new IE6" and a lot of general hatred for Chrome and Safari. There actually seems to be a lot of love for Trident, which is a big turnaround to the position a few years ago. Microsoft must be doing something right!

They are clearly having to raise their game. Firefox is getting lots of traction with those that can choose their browser. Unless they make IE as good as the rest they also hinder bing.

Firefox has actually been the loser of late, they have lost share to Chrome.

Do the browser wars still rage on?

It seems ages since we had a good OS flame war. While I miss them, I wonder how much it goes on elsewhere, or if those flames are dying with new ones taking their place, namely which mobile device do you use, which is really what ecosystem do you champion.

The main OSes are all much better than what was around a decade ago. Sure there are vulnerabilities but they are getting tougher and tougher to exploit, hence the rise in Phishing scams.

As far as which mobile device it is all a matter of personal preference. I have an acquaintance who has a Galaxy S3, nothing wrong with it, a bit large but then if you do some things a bigger screen is better. We will all delude ourselves as to why we bought that device over the alternatives, that applies to me as much as anyone else.

Ditto.

I use Safari. It works with all the websites I use so no need to use anything else.

The only one that is problematic is Tesco after getting forwarded from Topcashback.co.uk. I have to use Firefox for that combo.

Parts of Tesco don't work too well whatever browser you're using I think, their app's shocking too. Asda aren't much better.

Well I never have much problem with the Asda site, with Safari at least. Once I have sorted out the next Asda shop on mysupermarket , then it gets sent through without a problem. Funny thing is that only last week I did a grocery shop at Tesco with Safari without any problems.
