Headline in a certain newspaper today:

British woman, 29, and IT engineer, 45, fly to America to lose their virginity in shocking new Channel 4 documentary

Quote:
Scenes of a 45-year-old IT engineer losing his virginity to a 68-year-old 'sex surrogate' are to be aired on prime-time television.
Channel 4 documentary 40-Year-Old Virgins follows devout Christian Clive as he flies to the U.S. to meet Cheryl Cohen-Greene, a sex therapist and surrogate sexual partner whose work inspired last year's Oscar-nominated film The Sessions starring Helen Hunt.

The documentary, set to air at 9pm on Thursday, shows the 'intense bond' that develops between Clive and Ms Cohen-Greene as she helps him to face his fears of intimacy, Channel 4 said.

Personally I don't think it's shocking as I'm open minded and think that if this helps people lead a fulfilling life then why not?

Thoughts?

I'm not shocked, but I do question why he'd want to be on TV. I shan't be watching it.

I won't be watching either but like most things on TV it's probably to raise awareness. Although is the paper referring to it being o TV as shocking or the surrogacy itself?

I think most people are aware that people have sex and that some people have more issues with it than others...

It seems to me 'raising awareness' is often the excuse for showing something very voyeuristic purely for ratings.

Two programmes that I will not be watching.

There needs to be an 'It's just pityfull' or It's just sad' option for the poll.

It sounds very similar to prostitution, but with more emotion. There's nothing shocking about that, it's been around for centuaries.

On the surface, it sounds like a psychiatrist/prostitute mix.

Here, the local brothels have special discounts for the unemployed!

I don't see how it would be worth going all the way to America for...

If they did that here I think the right wing press would probably explode.

Could be worth watching from a safe distance (the exploding bit I mean).

The only shocking thing about the new Sex Surrogacy phenomenon is that anybody thinks it's either new or a phenomenon.
