I've just finished watching The Iron Giant for the first time. What a wonderful film. I'm surprised nobody told it was was so good. Mark

Watched 21 & Over last night at the movies; if you liked The Hangover and American Pie, then you're probably going to like this although I don't think it's in the same ballpark as those two in terms of laugh-out-loud moments and it's certainly not going to go down as a classic like those. I got free tickets which helped my enjoyment levels, worth a watch although probably not at the movies.

I keep getting distracted from writing a film review. Very frustrating.

Rubber. 8/10. Very enjoyable. Discarded car tyre comes to life and goes on a murderous rampage. There's more to it than that, but I won't spoil it.

The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)
Just in case anyone was thinking of watching this remake of the 1951(yes, it's that old)) sci-fi classic….don't bother. Despite a good opening 20 minutes or so the movie goes nowhere and doesn't build to any great climax at the end…it just stops. Very disappointing.
3 out of 10

Silver Linings Playbook 8/10
Cannot get over how awesome the performances are. I knew Bradley Cooper could act before everybody just wanted his babies, as I remember him from Alias (where he was awesome). But Jennifer Lawrence is a real surprise. But also a nuanced turn from De Niro and a lot of relateable material. But then this David O Russell and we all know how awesome The Fighter was, and Three Kings.
Plot has elements that some of the cynical viewers may find obvious or contrived, but overall it's bloody amazing. Must watch IMO.

Gah! Yet another DVD someone borrowed from me before I moved. I agree, it's a great film.

Just went to see Oblivion. It was visually stunning and sounded great, just a bit of a shame about everything else. I have a feeling the more cynical among you will put it in the same gategory as Avatar. It also virtually rips off the plot of a less well known film of the past decade which I won't name in case you decide to see it (I'm sure you'll figure it out for yourselves). Still the themes were interesting and I very much enjoyed it. Not in a rush to see it again though...

Wild Bill - Kitchen sink crime drama* with more stereotypes than you can shake a Guy Ritchie cohort at, moves at a snail's pace too despite only lasting 1.30... I doubt even Four would bother to show it in the early hours.
* And we're talking low-level drug dealing here.
